FROM CANVAS TO COURT: PUMA AND SOPHIA CHANG INTRODUCE NEW COLLABORATION

Ten years after their first team-up, PUMA and Sophia Chang are back together.

basketball sophia

Multi-hyphenate creative, illustrator, and storyteller, Sophia Chang looks to women’s basketball as the inspiration for her new collection of footwear and apparel. Guided by principles of inclusivity, diversity, and female allyship, Chang’s approach is heavily inspired by her community. Elevated through Chang’s lens, classic court silhouettes come with collegiate detailing, custom graphics, and pastel tones. Continuing the basketball motif, the Suede and Palermo sneakers round out the timeless range.

As an illustrator, Chang infuses the collaboration with her own hand-drawn visuals, which appear throughout the capsule. The Basketball Jersey and Knitted Bucket Hat come with a playful dribbling graphic, while a montage of illustrations appears on the Wide Leg Pants as well as the Cross Body Bag. The collection is highlighted by the Reversible Bomber which features letterman-inspired details and a special liner that is adorned with more of Chang’s signature illustrations.

Rendered in a pastel “Zen Blue” shade, the collection’s Suede continues Chang’s hand-drawn aesthetic across the shoe’s upper and tongue, while the “Grape Mist” Palermo features illustrations inset into the PUMA Formstrip.

Chang is featured in the campaign alongside two members of her local community of creatives, both styled in the new collection: Bethany Brill, designer and founder of Teddy Studios, and Bukunmi, creative director and photographer.

PUMA x Sophia Chang is available starting March 23, 2024, from PUMA.com, PUMA flagship stores, and selected PUMA retailers.

PUMA AND “ONE PIECE” SET SAIL FOR ADVENTURE ON THE HIGH SEAS

PUMA joins forces with the best-selling anime series of all time, One Piece.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of TV anime “One Piece”, the partnership mixes classic PUMA streetwear and sports silhouettes with the island-hopping pirate adventure series.

Following Luffy’s quest to become the King of the pirates, the globally popular anime is depicted through graphic elements like pirate flags, as well as scenes and characters from the show that are used across T-shirts, Hoodies, and PUMA’s T7 tracksuit. Selected pieces feature PUMA’s wordmark, cleverly mixed with the One Piece logo. Bringing the collaboration’s story to life, the PUMA x One Piece accessories include the adventure-ready Backpack and Bucket Hat.

For footwear, the collection’s four expressive PUMA Suedes are inspired by the Four Emperors: Straw Hat Luffy, Red-Haired Shanks, Blackbeard Teech, and Buggy the Genius Jester. Each of these figures is alluded to through elevated detailing like a cloud-shaped Formstrip representing Gear5 Luffy and scar-mark embroidery nodding to Shanks. Finally, custom packaging and special gold medallion hangtags come with each sneaker.

PUMA x One Piece is available starting March 23, 2024, from PUMA.com, PUMA flagship stores, and selected PUMA retailers.

PUMA UNLEASHES TWO VIBRANT NEW COLORWAYS OF THE MOSTRO

One of PUMA’s most unique and innovative footwear designs, the Mostro, is back in two radiant colorways: “Pink Delight” and “Ignite Blue”.

mostro

Originally launched in 1999, the Mostro takes its name from the Italian word for monster, which describes the shoe’s bold hybrid look that draws inspiration from two realms – the sleek but tough sprinting spikes of the '60s and the chilled-out surfing shoes of the '80s.

Truly one of the most distinctive sneakers from PUMA’s archive, the low-profile style boasts defining features such as its signature spiky sole and forefoot strap closure. Introduced in a Light Grey and Yellow color combination earlier this year, the experimental sneaker is now set to launch in two neon variations for its second drop.

The Mostro made its official return through the lens of photographer Chris Maggio in New York City, showing the silhouette through the daily lives of several unique city dwellers. Following that, the Mostro reared its head at PUMA’s "Welcome to the Amazing Mostro Show", a runway-event experience that kicked off New York Fashion Week.

The new PUMA Mostro colorways will be available starting March 23, 2024, at selected retailers worldwide including Kith, Slam Jam, LN-CC, END. Clothing, SSENSE, WORKSOUT.

PUMA PALERMO TOUCHES DOWN IN PALERMO

The PUMA Palermo travels home to the Sicilian capital itself for the new season.

The Palermo arrives in soft new color schemes, faithfully rendered in a timeless low-top profile, featuring a signature Palermo tag on the upper, a T-toe construction, and a classic gum outsole.

This new chapter in the Forever. Palermo. campaign captures the aliveness and sweet life of Palermo through its landmarks, markets, and streets, as two new colorways take the spotlight, arriving in “Grape Mist” and “Alpine Snow” editions.

The Palermo was originally part of a special series of sneakers created by PUMA that paid homage to some of Europe’s most famous capitals, including London, Oslo, and many more. The Palermo was later adopted by football casuals to become a staple of terrace subculture.

Following the re-introduction of the Palermo in its original colorway, this latest campaign arrives as a follow-up to the Jack Grealish and Dua Lipa-led Forever. Palermo. campaign from 2023, which depicted the football heritage of the shoe through a modern lens.

The latest PUMA Palermo pack is available starting March 14, from PUMA.com, PUMA flagship stores, and selected PUMA stockists.

WELCOME TO THE PUMA FAM: NICK MAYHUGH

Sports company PUMA is proud to announce the signing of three-time Paralympic gold medalist, Nick Mayhugh.

The 27-year-old became an overnight sensation on his Paralympic Games debut in Tokyo 2020, where he picked up gold in the Men’s 100m T37 event – setting a world record time of 10.95 – as well as taking home golds in both the Men’s 200m T37 and the Mixed 4x100m Relay.

In 2010, Nick was diagnosed with a mild form of cerebral palsy, but showed unwaivering determination to pursue a career in sport, becoming an integral member of the US Para Seven-a-Side National Soccer Team, before switching his focus to the track. Despite his relative inexperience, Nick found immediate success, and was the first ever T37 athlete to brake the 22 second barrier at 200m.

“Nick’s story is inspiring for many reasons; his grit, determination and desire to become the fastest athlete is something everyone can admire. We have such an exciting year ahead of us and we are looking forward to writing more stories and breaking many more records together,” said Pascal Rolling, Director of Sports Marketing at PUMA.

“PUMA is synonymous with speed, and representing the fastest athletes in the world. For me to be going into one of the most important years of my career, with PUMA on my feet, it’s a blessing,” added Nick Mayhugh.

PUMA AND X-GIRL BREAK THE RULES OF Y2K SKATE AESTHETICS

PUMA and X-girl explore the rebellious style codes of ‘90s and 2000s skateboarding culture for the duo’s first-ever collaboration.

Sister brand to seminal Japanese imprint XLARGE, X-girl was established in 1994 by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and Daisy von Furth. The cult brand’s raw ambition to create “Real Girl’s Clothing” is fed by a sampling of music and subculture.

PUMA’s bold team-up with X-girl is defined by its feminine edge and informed by skate-inspired accents and graphics, used across a selection of cut-and-sew pieces as well as reworked PUMA footwear models. The collection evokes DIY sensibilities through the use of graffiti-inspired lettering, contrast stitching, and hand-finished detailing.

The ethos of the partnership is best exemplified by items like the matching Midi Skirt and Woven Jacket that channel elements of workwear. Cropped Graphic Hoodies with a rolled hem bring a vintage feel, while the cycling-inspired Short Tights and Crop Top are adorned with an allover pattern and X-girl tags. For accessories, the collection’s Bucket Hat and Barrel Bag are accentuated with X-girl beading.

Eclectic takes on the PUMA 180 and PUMA Suede come with a special accessory kit including patches, charms, studs, and pearls, plus boldly colored laces. PUMA’s leaping cat logo appears as a lace charm on both silhouettes, while PUMA’s Formstrip is cleverly reimagined as a carabiner.

PUMA and PLEASURES are back, reprising their creative partnership with a second full collection for 2024.

This latest drop carries over from PUMA and PLEASURES’ first-ever seasonal offering in 2023, plus the previous Suede XL and Velophasis sneaker collaborations.

This time around, racing and punk motifs converge at the starting line to inform a range of cut-and-sew items, graphic shirts, accessories, two bold takes on the PUMA Spirex sneaker, and a new edition of the TS-01 slip-on.

Articulated apparel designs are injected with motorsport cues and engineered materials across a monotone color palette featuring bold neon pops. Following a “recipe for destruction,” the collection also comes with its own high-speed visuals created by PUMA and PLEASURES, with logo play mixed throughout. FOREVER SUEDE, FOREVER AUTHENTIC: A PUMA ICON

PUMA reintroduces the iconic Suede sneaker for 2024.

suede

Named for its signature upper material, and its many classic colorways, the Suede’s timeless shape and iconic Formstrip have remained constant and unchanging for half a century, at the same time, the meaning of the Suede has been reinvented countless times through the lens of different styles, cultures, and communities.

The 2024 Suede represents the diverse personalities behind this iconic silhouette, which is worn by a unique cast of faces in the latest campaign. This year, the PUMA Suede Classic returns in sizing for the whole family, in multiple nostalgic colorways.

The PUMA Suede has truly seen it all, and since 1968, the silhouette has been on a remarkable journey. Adopted into hip-hop and skateboarding, before being embraced by modern tastemakers who have made it their own, the Suede has lived a different life over each decade and each generation. The last 50 years have made it clear: no two Suedes are worn the same.

The PUMA Suede Classic is available starting February 24, 2024, from PUMA.com, PUMA flagship stores, and selected PUMA retailers.

Editor’s Note

The Suede traces its roots back to 1968 when PUMA introduced its warm-up sneaker, the Crack, named after skilled athletes. Suede was selected as the upper material for its ability to be dyed various colors. This timeless sneaker has defied trends and preferences, owing to its minimal aesthetic. Today, the Suede's legacy spans across music, style, and sports, and the shoe has truly earned the title of iconic.
