PUMA’S MIRAGE OG BLENDS RUNNING HERITAGE WITH MODERN INFLUENCES

PUMA brings back the Mirage, a running shoe that first appeared in the 1970s, and blends it with the fresh influences of modern life to create the Mirage OG.

The Mirage has been in the PUMA family for close to half a century, first introduced as a lightweight track and field shoe and then reissued as a jogging shoe in the 1990s with the addition of comfortable foam. In 2020, the Mirage OG makes a comeback as an essential streetwear shoe, which will be a perfect addition to any fashion forward outfit, without compromising on comfort.

The original design featured nylon, suede leather trimmings, and a foam wedge insert. In the 90s, the shoe was updated to include suede cutouts and EVA technology, adding both style and comfort. Blurring the lines of the past and present, the new Mirage OG features a textile upper with suede overlays, synthetic leather formstrip, transparent rubber detail on the heel, a die cut EVA midsole, and reflective elements on the heel.

Ralph Sampson MC

The Ralph Sampson Mid was the signature basketball shoe of Hall-of-Famer Ralph Sampson. The new Ralph Sampson MC is PUMA’s contemporary update on the archive classic while keeping design elements of the original. Details like Ralph Sampson’s signature and the tongue construction reference its older counterpart, while the rest of the shoe received a more minimalist and cleaner, yet refined update. This execution references the toned down and minimal aesthetic of Scandinavian design with neutral colors and a leather upper with suede overlays.

THE BEATING HEART OF DORTMUND: PUMA AND BORUSSIA DORTMUND UNVEIL FAN-DESIGNED AWAY KITFOR THE 2023/24 SEASON

In a celebration of 'Echte Liebe,' meaning 'true love’, PUMA and Borussia Dortmund (BVB) have come together to launch a fan-designed Away kit for the 2023/24 season.

The all-over grey print pattern on the black jersey encapsulates an aerial view of the historic Borsigplatz square, where BVB was founded in 1909. It's a design that not only pays homage to the birthplace of the club but also embodies the heartbeat of Dortmund's footballing heritage.

The final touches to the jersey are a classic black round collar with yellow sleeve cuffs and trims to honor the black and yellow heritage.

Marco Mueller, PUMA Senior Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Apparel, expressed his excitement, stating, "We were overwhelmed with the number of submissions from fans that we just had to bring this initiative back for the Away kit. The design selected is a profound tribute to Borsigplatz and serves as a constant reminder of Dortmund’s rich footballing legacy.”

“We received so many fantastic kit designs from our fans. One in particular really stood out and got the jury excited. We felt this black design was a natural pick to inspire our Away jersey and we are very happy with the final result,” Carsten Cramer, Borussia Dortmund Managing Director explained.

The new Authentic jersey features cutting-edge technology to provide optimal performance and comfort on the pitch. Engineered with ULTRAWEAVE fabric, the kit boasts a structured, 4-way stretch design that reduces weight and friction, allowing players to move freely and comfortably. The dryCELL technology integrated into the fabric is designed to keep your body free from sweat.

The Replica version is similarly equipped with dryCELL sweat-wicking technology to keep you dry and comfortable throughout the 90 minutes and beyond – no matter the time, pitch, or place. Both jerseys are made with 100% recycled materials, excluding the trims and decorations as a step toward a better future.

To celebrate the launch of the new Away kit, PUMA and BVB partnered with the local social project Nordstadtliga Dortmund to host a special street football tournament in the middle of the city close to Borsigplatz. The event culminated with the reveal of the Away kit in the final game of the tournament.

Nordstadtliga Dortmund is a special social project based in Nordstadt - one of the closest historically associated districts to BVB in Dortmund. Just two kilometers away from the birthplace of the black and yellow club, Borsigplatz is the venue of the street soccer league and is a special project that helps young people from all ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds integrate into sport. Since 2020, the Nordstadtliga has also been a flagship project of BVB’s ‘leuchte auf’ foundation.

Additionally, to the launch of the new BVB Away kit, custom Octane and Fennec decals based on the new BVB Away kit design, PUMA themed wheels and a PUMA player banner will be available in the popular sports action game Rocket League from August 24th through to September 5th .

Showcase the passion of BVB’s fans with the new 2023/24 BVB Away kit available from August 25th at PUMA stores, PUMA.com, the BVB store at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, bvbonlineshop.com and at select retailers worldwide.

PUMA TOGETHER WITH RED BULL RACING HONDA UNVEILS BEHIND THE SCENES LOOKS HOW TO CREATE A SPECIAL EDITION RACE SUIT

Global sports company PUMA extends their legacy of special edition race suits this Formula One race weekend in Turkey. In collaboration with the Red Bull Racing Honda PUMA is dressing the drivers for the very first time in white paying homage to teams’ race-winning alliance with power unit supplier Honda.

The history of PUMA special edition race suits together with the team of Red Bull Racing Honda is already rich. It all started with the “Lederhosen” special race suit in Austria (2016), continued with the cowboy suits in Austin (2018) and the tuxedo design in Silverstone celebrating James Bond (2019). “We are not afraid of doing something a bit different. Special Edition Race Suits are something we have done in the team historically, but we haven’t done it in a while now”, says Team Principal and CEO of Red Bull Racing Honda Christian Horner. The eye-catching white design of the latest PUMA special edition race suit is to celebrate the teams’ race-winning alliance with power-unit supplier Honda before they leave the stage of Formula One at the end of the season.

Design language is always quite specific. “As we started to design the race suit, we tend to go a little bit old school. The white suit comes about as a thank you to our friends at Honda. We wanted to take some of their heritage with their white uniforms and liveries back in the 50s, 60s and bring it into current day with us,” explains Greg Auchterlonie (Head of Brand Design, Red Bull Racing Honda). “I took the inspiration from Max Verstappen visiting the Honda factory in 2019. He was walking in his Red Bull Racing Honda race suit next to Takuma Sato in his white race suit which is relying a lot on the red of the Honda logo. So I tried to merge both designs and bring it into our 2021 race suit.”

PUMAxHonda_Red_Bull_Racing
PUMAxHonda_Red_Bull_Racing

When the design process is finished the production comes to play. PUMA´s race gear factory is sitting in Turin (ITA), supplying race teams worldwide. Since 2016 PUMA has been customizing the race gear of Red Bull Racing Honda drivers. “The process to make a race suit starts with the design we get from the teams. We immediately check the feasibility of the fabrics and patterns and then we go into the process of allocating all the logos, all the different shapes and stripes of the suits, and then we forward all the information to the supplier who starts to produce the suit,” acknowledges Maurizio Sicco (Teamhead Motorsport Racewear, PUMA). “The process we follow to make the special edition suit is exactly the same as the other suits. What is changing is the color of the material, the shape of the CAD lines and the position of the logos. But in terms of technical specification of all the materials, they are exactly the same as every suit of every GP.”

The safety as well as the performance of the race suits is what counts the most in the end to protect the drivers from fire, as well as fitting them perfectly to perform their very best. “10 - 12 years ago one suit could easily be 1.5 kg of weight. The goal was and is to make the suits as light as possible. For example, we are not embroidering the logos anymore because it is heavy, so we are printing the logos.”

D-SHAWN CARABALLO - JUNIOR PRODUCTION ARTIST E-COM

The stories behind our interns from around the globe. Dive in & see where they are now.

THIS IS MY STORY

I am a Junior Production Artist with the E-commerce department here at our North American office in Boston. I started in this role September 2019,  however I had been with the company almost a year prior to that as an intern. Long story short, I had an incredible journey to get here and I took a risk by leaving my full-time job as a college counselor to follow my passion and my internship helped me accomplish just that.

MY ADVICE

My advice for future incoming interns with PUMA is to build connections everywhere. Unfortunately, we get comfortable in our close work circle most of the time. Instead, make time to meet someone new. Go to lunch and sit with someone, say hi in the line or just a simple smile can be a way to connect with someone. The simplest introduction can help build people’s comfort and put trust in you. You gain a good reputation and they gain a new trusted colleague. That way, everyone wins.

I was a graphic design intern for the Sportstyle Business Unit here at PUMA. My then boss was incredible and let me venture off into other departments to experience something different and see what I really wanted to do.

PUMA FAMILY

This was when I had the chance to dive into photography and video projects, which I fell in love with. Those skills came in handy when COVID-19 hit and I had the know-how and opportunity to shoot products and videos for PUMA. Obviously, due to strict regulations our usual outside vendors weren't allowed to do the job. Taking initiative early on allowed me to be ready to take on bigger responsibilities in my full-time role.

The best part of working at PUMA is the people I get to work with and work for. They are a great group of amazing people from all different walks of life and all different experiences. They have been some of the most supportive colleagues, which makes coming to work a lot easier when you genuinely like where you work. Also, being one of the first to always get my hands on cool gear is not bad either.

PUMA’S LATEST SUEDES ARE NEW CLASSICS FOR HIP-HOP’S 50TH ANNIVERSARY

PUMA celebratesthe iconic Suede and itsshared history with hip-hop, as the genre celebrates its 50th anniversary.

To commemorate the occasion, PUMA is taking a journey through time to celebrate the Suede with a string of drops that explores how hip-hop has evolved over five decades, and in doing so left its unmistakable impact on many different subcultures. First up, PUMA’s special Collector’s Edition Suede derives from classic varsity jackets favored by ‘70s hip-hop-heads. Inspired by the OGs, the Collector’s Edition Suede is made for the past, present, and future of hip-hop.

This edition of the PUMA Suede boasts a high-quality suede upper, punctuated by crisp colors and contrast blocking. White piping outlines PUMA’s iconic Formstrip, which features tear-away black material, revealing white underneath. Subtle silverstuds appear on the shoe’s upper and heel, while special touches appear in the form of waxed laces and a “48” stamp, signifying the year of PUMA’s founding in 1948.

The accompanying Suede Fat Lace is a purist expression of the silhouette’s history, recalling the impression that the Suede left on hip-hop style in the 1980s. This new iteration comes with fat laces and gold-colored lace charms, designed to be worn by hip-hop royalty.

Informed by hip-hop history, the PUMA Suede Collector’s Edition and Suede Fat Lace are accompanied by a capsule of apparel, including a matching tracksuit, jerseys, and varsity jacket, also bearing PUMA’s “48” insignia.

The latest PUMA Suedes are available starting August 3, 2023, from PUMA.com, PUMA flagship stores, and selected PUMA stockists.

PUMA BREAKS PERFORMANCE BARRIERS WITH LIGHTEST EVER JERSEY FEATURING REVOLUTIONARY ULTRAWEAVE TECHNOLOGY

The technology will be unveiled on-pitch at the Italy vs Spain Nations Cup Semi-Final. Global sports company PUMA has developed ULTRAWEAVE, its lightest ever performance apparel technology engineered to deliver the game’s fastest football jersey. The new technology will make an on-pitch debut on October 6, worn by the Italy men’s national team at their Nations League semi-final fixture against Spain. The ULTRAWEAVE jersey will also be worn by the Italy women’s national team in their upcoming fixtures.

ULTRAWEAVE, which was created following years of vigorous wear testing with PUMA athletes, is an ultra-light weight fabric that is engineered for optimized performance. The jersey has a base chassis weighing only 72 grams, with extreme weight reduction achieved through a lightweight woven fabric featuring a 4-way engineered mechanical stretch that will make PUMA players and teams faster and more dynamic.

Football is defined by marginal gains. When the game is on the line every gram counts. As part of the brand’s Faster Football movement, PUMA aims to push boundaries, innovate, and bring fresh products to football. ULTRAWEAVE is a unique combination of fabric, pattern construction and applications (trims) that give the garment it’s unique properties, delivering the most ultra-lightweight and comfortable performance apparel PUMA has ever made in their mission to be the fastest sports brand in the world.

The lightweight woven fabric features a 2-dimensional ripstop structure that stays durable while enhancing player movement and drastically reducing weight. Further weight reduction is achieved through a specially crafted pattern that reduces the conventional design of four to eight panels into just two main panels – reducing the number of seams and stitches in the jersey. Additionally, the ULTRAWEAVE jerseys feature a new print technique for team/federation and PUMA logos, which is lighter and more breathable than traditional transfers.

PUMA Football_ULTRAWEAVE

ULTRAWEAVE retains performance, durability and breathability measures with thermo-regulating properties to ensure optimal performance in extreme conditions. The dryCELL recycled polyester jersey is fast drying and reduces water retention, which allows for optimal performance when wet or dry.

Speaking at the reveal of ULTRAWEAVE, Stefano Favaro, Creative Director Teamsport at PUMA said: “Our athletes wanted something lighter and faster to help them achieve marginal gains needed at the highest level. This resulted in four years of testing and development to achieve the lightest football jersey we have ever made. Sport is defined by split seconds. Therefore, we identified apparel as a product that we could evolve to a new level. We felt we could give our players and teams a tangible performance benefit over 90 minutes. During a game players cover an average of 10 to 13.5km with high intensity action every 60 seconds. To perform at your optimal level during a game, the apparel needs to adapt and evolve. Through ULTRAWEAVE, we are able to reduce apparel and kit weight and restrictions to improve performance.”

The new technology has been applied to the Italy Home jersey for the very first time for Italy’s upcoming Nations League semi-final against Spain. The special material has been incorporated in the existing Renaissance Home jersey pattern as PUMA debut their lightest ever jersey on pitch in one of the biggest games of the season.

The new FIGC ULTRAWEAVE Home jersey is available exclusively from October 6 at PUMA.com, FIGC online stores and specialist retailers worldwide.
