PUMA FOOTBALL SIGN THE WORLD’S MOST EXPENSIVE GOALKEEPER JAN OBLAK

PUMA Football has signed a long term partnership with Jan Oblak, the most expensive goalkeeper in the world, who joins an extensive list of world class goalkeepers wearing the sports company’s performance footwear and equipment.

Oblak has establish himself as one of the world’s leading goalkeepers, being voted the Spanish league’s best goalkeeper three times in a row. He achieved 100 career clean sheets in 178 games and since his transfer to Madrid in 2014, he has kept more clean sheets (79) than any other goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues.

In recognition of his achievements, Oblak’s club contract includes a €100 million buy-out clause – making him technically the world’s most expensive goalkeeper. 

Jan Oblak in numbers;

  • For three seasons in a row (2015/16, 2016/17 & 2017/18), Oblak has won the Ricardo Zamora Trophy, awarded to the goalkeeper who concedes the fewest goals in the Spanish league.
  • In the calendar year 2018, Oblak played 27 games from 50 without conceding (0.72 goals per game) – the best rate in Europe’s top five leagues. 
  • Jan Oblak reached 100 career clean sheets in only 178 games.
  • Since August 2014 he has the most clean sheets to his name with 79, that’s 13 more than the next contender (PUMA goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon).
  • In Europe’s top-flight club competition, of all the goalkeepers with 40+ appearances, Oblak has the highest clean sheets per game rate.

The all-over grey print pattern on the black jersey encapsulates an aerial view of the historic Borsigplatz square, where BVB was founded in 1909. It's a design that not only pays homage to the birthplace of the club but also embodies the heartbeat of Dortmund's footballing heritage.

The final touches to the jersey are a classic black round collar with yellow sleeve cuffs and trims to honor the black and yellow heritage.

Just two kilometers away from the birthplace of the black and yellow club, Borsigplatz is the venue of the street soccer league and is a special project that helps young people from all ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds integrate into sport. A NEW KING JOINS PUMA. PUMA UNVEILS DUTCH PHENOM XAVI SIMONS AS THE FACE OF THE ICONIC KING FRANCHISE

Global sports company PUMA has signed a long-term partnership with Dutch phenom, Xavi Simons, who becomes the new face of the PUMA KING football boot.

Considered one of the most exciting and most sought-after players in Europe, Xavi follows in the footsteps of some of footballs biggest icons that include Johan Cruyff, Maradona, Eusébio and Pelé.

Having made his professional debut aged just 17 for French giants, Paris Saint Germain, Xavi joined PSV Eindhoven in June 2022, delivering 24 goals and 13 assists in 34 games this past season, and at only 20 years of age, the best is yet to come. Global Sports company PUMA announces a collaboration between five-time World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen and professional football player Christian Pulisic.

Two sport icons came together on a football pitch to have a conversation about the differences and similarities between chess and football.

What can a football athlete and a chess player teach one another? The conversation between Magnus and Christian only shows that there are plenty of things that are relevant for both disciplines. “I am an attacking player who likes to be creative and to put defenders on their back foot. I like to be very aggressive and direct towards goals, so that's really my style,” said Pulisic. When playing football or chess, it is important to avoid critical errors, think strategically, and make decisions quickly. “In chess, I am pretty universal, but definitely leaning towards positional rather than tactical play,” said Carlsen.

Garnering more than 15,000 submissions worldwide, a panel led by team captain Marco Reus and Club legend Dedê narrowed down the options to nine exceptional designs, with the final design chosen through a public vote.

Embodying BVB pride, the jersey showcases a striking silhouette of the Club's cherished home, SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, in the classic black and yellow colours.

In partnership with nss, PUMA has designed a truly unique jersey influenced by the city of Naples, the birthplace of nss magazine. SHUKYU is a football culture magazine based in Tokyo. The magazine focuses on players, clubs, supporters, fashion, art and the culture that exists beyond the beautiful game.

The striking green jersey draws inspiration from the city of Tokyo and the traditional Japanese event ‘Kemari’, a form of historical football. The Kemari festival takes place each year and is a platform for players to show their talents.

For this special jersey the cherry blossom motif has been used in an all over graphic inspired by the design of typical ‘Kimono’ costumes. The jersey also features a custom crest in homage to traditional Japanese patterns and fabrics. The magazine title is displayed in bold across the front of the jersey and the layout of the magazine’s front cover is displayed on the back of the jersey featuring the number 11.
