PUMA AND PRONOUNCE CREATE DEBUT COLLECTION INSPIRED BY ANCIENT ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

Global sports company PUMA and designer brand PRONOUNCE have created a debut collaboration together of apparel, footwear and accessories in an earthy palette inspired by Pumapunku, an ancient archaeological site in Bolivia.

Based across both Milan and Shanghai, PRONOUNCE was founded in 2016 by Yushan Li and his creative partner Jun Zhou. The high-end brand reflects the pairs’ shared love of handcrafted garments, and a desire to perfect the creation of truly global, truly genderless clothing. They have a unique approach of playfully weaving in references and inspirations from Eastern, Western, and ancient cultures and philosophies. This approach fits seamlessly into the debut PUMA x PRONOUNCE collection, which combines ancient inspiration with a modern and minimalistic design approach.

In ancient Incan tradition, Pumapunku is believed to be the seat of global civilization, and now stands as a remnant of a vast complex of stone temples and geometric monuments. Taking cues from such intricate architectural constructions in the pre-technological age, the PUMA x PRONOUNCE collection brings this inspiration to life through the use of graphic motifs representing ropes, pulleys, and clay blocks. The color palette is inspired by the majesty of the sunset over Pumapunku, with gradient tones of orange, pebble, and muted grey.

In modern fits and gender specific styles, the apparel comes in a vibrant, gradient color story, with bold color blocking alongside earthy colors. Playful details resembling ropes adorn lightweight woven apparel styles with techy details. Items include tees, hoodies and sweatpants alongside more tailored pieces like a collared shirt, trousers, and a selection of jackets.

The footwear in the collection uses a very textural material mix in a neutral color scheme. Accents of bright orange and rope detailing add a bold touch. The selection includes new PUMA styles like the Suede Mayu, Mirage Sport, and OP-1 PWRFrame, as well as classics like the Basket VTG. A cap, backpack and mini messenger are included in the accessories offering for the collection.

Grab the PUMA x PRONOUNCE collection when it drops on PUMA.com, PUMA stores and select retailers.

A FIRST LOOK AT THE CORDUROY BASKET FROM PUMA AND BUTTER GOODS
Sports company PUMA and Australian skate label Butter Goods are announcing a new partnership between the brands, set to begin this June. The two will come together for collections heavily inspired by nostalgia and the ‘90s.

Founded in Perth, Australia in 2008, Butter Goods first began as a way to celebrate the love of music and skateboarding the founders grew up on. Those connecting to the nostalgia grew the brand’s worldwide community, and today the brand exists in a place where skateboarding and music collide, inspired by the different counter cultures that were born through those movements.

With both brands anchored in sports heritage, it seems a natural fit that a special PUMA x BUTTER GOODS Basket VTG is being released to kick off the partnership. The full collection takes inspiration from sports advertising in the late ‘90s and early 2000’s and is set to be released in August.

Giving it a nostalgic feel, the PUMA x BUTTER GOODS Basket VTG comes in a cream, corduroy upper with a white stitched formstrip. Also included in the pre-release is a white graphic tee, featuring a vintage logo of the PUMA cat sitting on top of the Butter Goods logo.

Grab the exclusive first drop of PUMA x BUTTER GOODS on June 24th when it drops on PUMA.com, PUMA stores and select retailers. Stay tuned for the full collection set to release later this summer.

PAST MEETS FUTURE WITH PUMA’S NEW MIRAGE SPORT
Global sports company PUMA expands its Mirage franchise with its hot new addition, the Mirage Sport. Taking cues from the archive and mixing them with contemporary design elements comes this new style inspired by the energetic, trippy world of DJ culture.

Mirage Sport is a successor in a long lineage of Mirage shoes that started back in the 70s. The design team worked hard to bring PUMA’s FUTRO design language forward, playing with archive references and mashing them with futuristic details. The color palette is muted, almost washed-out to keep the attention on the richness of the materials and the construction of the shoe.

“For the initial drop we wanted to expose the manufacturing process and the imperfections that come in the early sampling process of a sneaker,” says Danny Taylor, PUMA’s Design Lead for Sportstyle Footwear. “This can be seen through exposing the foam under the collar, exaggerating the loose edges of the materials and various elements that are intentionally disconnected from the upper to emphasize the overall layering.”

The new addition to the growing range of Mirage will be available starting June 5th in PUMA Stores, PUMA.com, and select retailers worldwide. New colorways will be available through the rest of 2021.

Sugarcane and recycled materials: PUMA creates more sustainable footwear styles
Sports company PUMA has created a new midsole which is made with sugarcane and the company will also introduce new footwear styles this spring, which are made with recycled materials, as part of its plan to make its entire product range more sustainable.

Better Foam, which will be used in footwear products starting this summer, contains at least 35% bio-based materials which are derived from sugar cane. Sugar cane absorbs carbon as it grows and the parts of the plant which are not destined for food production are blended into traditional foam cushioning to make Better Foam.

The first sneaker to feature Better Foam will be the Emerge, a stylish training shoe which will be sold starting July 1.

In addition, PUMA has launched two new sneaker styles, the Caven and the Jada, which are made with at least 20% recycled materials in the upper and the laces. The Caven is inspired by 80s basketball shoes, while the Jada has its roots in classic tennis shoes.

Earlier this year, PUMA announced that by 2025, nine out of ten PUMA products will be made of more sustainable materials, as the sports company aims to make a positive environmental impact across its product range.
