PUMA REVEALS JAMAICAN OLYMPIC KIT IN SPECTACULAR SHOWCASE OF SPEED AT PRESTIGIOUS ISSA BOYS & GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Globally renowned sports brand, PUMA, proudly unveiled the highly anticipated Jamaican Olympic Association kits during an unmissable showcase of speed at the ISSA Boys & Girls Championships in Kingston, Jamaica.

The reveal, at the Jamaica National Stadium, came in front of more than 25,000 track enthusiasts from across the country, all gathering to feast their eyes on the future of Jamaican track & field. It served as the perfect platform to showcase the cutting-edge apparel that will adorn the fastest athletes on the planet this summer in Paris – many of whom competed at this event in their teenage years.

Jamaica’s most prestigious athletes took centre stage for the grand reveal, including the likes of double, double Olympic Champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah; the fastest woman alive at the 200 meters, Shericka Jackson; reigning Olympic Champion at the 110m hurdles Hansle Parchment; the second fastest man of all-time, Yohan Blake; former 100m World Record holder, Asafa Powell; World U-20 Triple Jump Champion Jaydon Hibbert; Rushell Clayton, Ackeem Blake and many more. They were joined side-by-side on the track by young athletes from PUMA sponsored high schools.

The ISSA Boys & Girls Championships, often referred to as "Champs," has gained immense popularity and recognition for its ability to showcase young Jamaican talent who have gone on to achieve greatness on both the domestic and international stage. The Championships not only celebrate sporting excellence but also serve as a symbol of unity, passion and pride for the Jamaican community.

"Champs is the beating heart of Jamaica. For decades, it has produced an unimaginable number of Olympians, World Champions and World Record holders, who themselves have created some of the most memorable moments in sports history. Tonight, here in Kingston, we created another,” said PUMA's Chief Executive Officer, Arne Freundt.

The new designs represent a perfect harmony of speed and fashion, reflective of the symbiotic relationship between these two giants of track & field.

Rooted in elite performance, they have been designed to evoke speed with cut lines strategically placed to accentuate the physique of the athletes whilst also providing a showstopping visual via Warpspeed graphics that emphasise the beauty of an athlete in motion. Engineered jacquard fabric is ergonomically shaped to contour the back muscles for heat reduction and breathability, with thermoadapt technology regulating body temperature to enable optimum performance.

“In their truest form these kits are an expression of speed. Speed has always been PUMA’s vantage point. It is what enables us to see the game differently, challenge convention and create moments that will live with us forever. We can’t wait to experience more in Paris this summer,” added Arne.

Maria Valdes, Chief Product Officer at PUMA, commented: “What makes these kits special is how closely they have been created in collaboration with our athletes. They are more than just a kit – they are a statement of the collective ambition shared between PUMA and Jamaica. They are a symbol of pride for the PUMA family, and we hope that they become a symbol of pride for Jamaicans this summer and long into the future.”

WELCOME TO THE PUMA FAM: NICK MAYHUGH

Sports company PUMA is proud to announce the signing of three-time Paralympic gold medalist, Nick Mayhugh.

The 27-year-old became an overnight sensation on his Paralympic Games debut in Tokyo 2020, where he picked up gold in the Men’s 100m T37 event – setting a world record time of 10.95 – as well as taking home golds in both the Men’s 200m T37 and the Mixed 4x100m Relay.

In 2010, Nick was diagnosed with a mild form of cerebral palsy, but showed unwaivering determination to pursue a career in sport, becoming an integral member of the US Para Seven-a-Side National Soccer Team, before switching his focus to the track. Despite his relative inexperience, Nick found immediate success, and was the first ever T37 athlete to brake the 22 second barrier at 200m.

“Nick’s story is inspiring for many reasons; his grit, determination and desire to become the fastest athlete is something everyone can admire. THE JAMAICA OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION AND PUMA UNVEIL OLYMPIC APPAREL FOR LONDON 2012, DESIGNED BY CEDELLA MARLEY

USAIN BOLT AND CEDELLA MARLEY SHOWCASE THE JAMAICA TRACK & FIELD OLYMPIC WEAR

The Jamaica Olympic Association and PUMA today launched the Jamaican Team uniforms for the London 2012 Olympic Games™, including podium and ceremony wear with the help of Jamaican Track Athlete and World’s Fastest man Usain Bolt. Fashion designer Cedella Marley, daughter of Reggae icon the late Bob Marley, unveiled her designs alongside Usain Bolt at the launch in London today.

The designs will be worn by the entire team (men and women), including three-time Jamaican Olympic gold medallist, fastest man in the world and PUMA athlete Usain Bolt. PUMA’s partnership with Marley, the eldest daughter in the Jamaican family dynasty, underscores the brand’s long-time commitment to the Caribbean nation, with its rich cultural heritage, global music contributions and its unparalleled dedication to Athletics.

“It is truly an honor to design this collection for my home country and my home team,” said Cedella Marley. “It’s not even a dream come true because it’s something I never dreamed would be possible. I ran track in high school in Jamaica and I’m still a huge fan of Jamaican Athletics, so to have a role in creating the outfits for our Olympians is a thrill. I admire what PUMA has been doing in Jamaica over the years and the Marley family has the same type of give-back philosophy. I think this partnership is going to be legendary.”

Staying true to PUMA’s DNA of sportlifestyle, the collection incorporates high-tech fabrics and silhouettes engineered to enhance the performance of the athletes hailing from the fastest country in the world—Jamaica. Taking inspiration from the vibrant colors and patterns of the Caribbean nation as well as the African influences that have come to characterize that country, Cedella Marley’s unique designs are sure to make the world take notice in the summer of 2012.

“I can’t think of a better person to design our Olympic outfits than Cedella,” said Usain Bolt. “PUMA got that right…hooking up with a legendary Jamaican. She’s a great designer but also carries on the spirit of our nation through the legacy of the Marley family. It’s going to be inspirational to run in London with that energy surrounding me.”

PUMA’s Olympic wear will be accompanied by a lifestyle collection of apparel, footwear and accessories which will be available at PUMA retail stores globally in June 2012.

“We’ll go through a rigorous process of material selection and design to ensure the performance singlets, in particular, meet the needs of Jamaica’s world-class athletes,” continued Marley. They have to fit and feel like a second skin.”

“Cedella, the Marley family and their fun and laid back Jamaican nature are a perfect fit for the PUMA brand”, said Franz Koch, CEO of PUMA. “Cedella’s vibrant style and unique design will bring an authenticity to the Olympic PUMA collection for the entire world to see in London 2012, boosting the visibility of our brand significantly.”

Cedella Marley began designing clothes while she was on tour with Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, a band comprised of her brothers and sisters. Her fashion brand, Catch A Fire, named after her father’s first album, debuted in 2001 and encompasses a tailored bohemian style with vivid colors and prints. Her collections are available in upscale department stores throughout the United States. In addition to fashion design, Marley is a children’s book author and the CEO of Tuff Gong International—the record label founded by father Bob Marley in 1965. She is also the director of Marley and Company which manages Bob’s image and music rights and helms the merchandising conglomerate The House of Marley. A life-long philanthropist, Marley is currently overseeing operations for The Bob Marley Foundation and 1Love.org, which aligns well with PUMA’s own commitment to giving back.

PUMA’s investment in Track & Field in Jamaica is far and wide, with Usain Bolt being undeniably one of the brand’s greatest ambassadors. Since 2002, PUMA has sponsored the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), which is the governing body for Track and Field in Jamaica, and the Jamaica Olympic Association. In addition to this, PUMA helps to foster young talent through sponsorship of seven high school track and field programs. This partnership also drives the annual ISSA Boys & Girls Track and Field Championships, dubbed “The Champs” which is lauded as the most popular sporting event in Jamaica and the place where many of the world-renowned sprinters got their start. PUMA is a partner of pre-Champs meets including the Gibson Relays and various Invitationals. Outside of the high school sphere, PUMA is the main partner of the Reggae Marathon, which takes place each December in Jamaica and draws distance runners from all over the world.

The world will be watching Usain Bolt in London 2012 to see if he will break his own record in the 100m and 200m relays, clad in Cedella Marley’s unique designs. At 25, Bolt has emerged as one of the world’s most talented Track and Field athletes in the modern era, winning three gold medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and smashing two world records in the 100m (9:58) and 200m (19:19) at the World Championships in Berlin in 2009. PUMA, like many Bolt enthusiasts, believes the best is yet to come.

puma signs rising pole vault star armand "mondo" Duplantis
Global sports company PUMA has signed rising Pole Vault star Armand "Mondo" Duplantis, the young athlete competing for Sweden, who will further boost the company's impressive roster of track and field athletes.

At only 19 years of age, U.S. born Mondo has already won several medals and broken a fair share of records. In 2018, he stunned the track and field world at the European Championships by setting a U20 record for a 6.05m jump and taking the gold medal.

“I don’t want to sound like a cliché, but being part of the PUMA family is a dream come true,” said Mondo about his new relationship with the sports brand. “It’s a perfect fit because Usain Bolt is the greatest ever to live, and I’m not saying that I’m him, but following in his steps is an amazing opportunity. I’m honored that PUMA trusted me to represent the brand, I’ll do everything it takes to make them proud.”

Mondo’s success is the result of a lifelong dedication to the sport and being born into an athletic family. Coached by his mother and father, he grew up pole vaulting in his own backyard.

In addition to his exceptional athletic abilities, Mondo is a charismatic, inspiring, hard-working, and a highly motivated person. He has what it takes to shine in anything he strives for, especially on the road to 2020.

PUMA signs double event US National Champion JuVaughn Harrison
Global sports brand PUMA has signed JuVaughn Harrison, the freshly crowned U.S. National Champion in both the men’s high jump and long jump at the recent US Olympic track and field trials, where he qualified for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. JuVaughn will be the first US athlete to compete in both high jump and long jump since 1912.

The 22-year-old JuVaughn pulled off the epic double last week in Eugene, where he also punched his ticket to the Games on the last day at Hayward Field to close out the U.S. Track and Field Championships. JuVaughn first cleared a solid 2.33 meters in the afternoon, and later returned that evening with an impressive 8.47 meters in the long jump.

“JuVaughn Harrison is one of the most exciting athletes in all of the sport of Track and Field,” said Pascal Rolling, Head of Running Sports Marketing at PUMA. “He has not just the talent, but also the personality and confidence to help him go far. You don’t come across many athletes who are as good in either event, let alone able to set personal bests in both the high jump and long jump within hours of each other at major championships.”

JuVaughn will join fellow LSU alumnus Mondo Duplantis in the PUMA Family of world-class athletes and brand ambassadors and will add to an already incredibly strong roster of jumpers across multiple events.

“PUMA just felt like the right fit,” said JuVaughn. “They have several athletes who are simply at the top in their respective event, including my friend Mondo Duplantis. I’m excited to be part of such an elite group. On a side note, my parents are Jamaican, so growing up I followed athletes like Usain Bolt and so it makes me proud to join such a brand and be part of the legacy.” The newly crowned US champion has not lost a high jump competition since March 30, 2019, - which includes 15 straight competitions in the high jump that he hasn’t been beaten.

WORLD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR KARSTEN WARHOLM TALKS “ONLY SEE GREAT”

The current 400m hurdles world record holder and World Athlete of the Year 2021 Karsten Warholm speaks about his motivation to stay at the highest level in sports and how he set his record-breaking performance, in a video interview with sports company PUMA.

PUMA Ambassador and Norwegian athlete Karsten Warholm shares his motivation to become the number one in PUMA’s “Only See Great” campaign

"DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO ACHIEVE GREATNESS”

With the ‘Only See Great’ campaign, PUMA explores the career path of its brand ambassadors, as they will talk about their own paths to striving for greatness, listening to their hearts, and finding a vision that no one else can see.

In the interview, Warholm talks about his extraordinary performances, starting from the very first successes, which happened thanks to a balanced mix of professional preparation and by trusting his instincts.

“When I won the World Championships in London, I think that was a surprise to me and a surprise to everyone”, Karsten said. “That was sort of my breakthrough, and I didn’t expect it but I also knew I had a chance – I knew that the work was done, and I knew I had results that could be good enough. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re able to do it – but yeah, a very special moment and probably one of the most memorable moments because the victories that you haven’t prepared for mentally are probably the biggest surprises.”

Karsten Warholm

I do this because I really enjoy it. And the only thing that’s better than one gold medal… is two.

WHILE MANY TITLES AND MEDALS FOLLOWED, WARHOLM SAYS HIS BIGGEST INSPIRATION IS HIS LOVE FOR THE SPORT.

The postponement of the Olympic Games last year took their toll on motivation, but Warholm said the delay also helped him raise the bar: “The mindset comes back again because you need to try to turn the tables and see if you can make this an advantage. I was able to continue the training and I think, if it wasn’t for the pandemic, I wouldn’t have been able to run 45.94 at the Olympics.”

Warholm says he fully embraces the vision of “Only See Great”: “Every time I step on a track, I try to give it my all and I hope people see that and get inspired by the way I’m attacking my races. I think attitude is something that we can all have, and we can all learn.”

The idea for PUMA’s “Only See Great” campaign was inspired by cultural icon, entrepreneur and philanthropist Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter who first said: “I only see great. I don’t see good. I don’t see compromise. We should always strive to make something great, something that will last.”

WORLD RECORD HOLDER USAIN BOLT TALKS “ONLY SEE GREAT”

“Greatness is doing things that no one has ever done before”

The world record holder and retired Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt speaks about his motivation to become the greatest sprinter of all time in a video interview with sports company PUMA.

With the ‘Only See Great’ campaign, PUMA explores the career paths of its brand ambassadors, as they talk about their own experiences to achieve greatness, listen to their hearts, and share their vision with others.

In this interview, Bolt talks about his extraordinary athletic performances, starting from the very first successes and setbacks to becoming a legacy.

“As a junior, I was really, really talented, but getting into the senior level, I was still kind of young and naive and felt like I didn’t need to work as hard to compete at a high level,” Bolt said. “Going to (the 2004 Olympic Games in) Athens and not actually making it through the first round really helped me to say: ‘you know what, I need to look at myself and understand that if I want to be the best or if I want to win an Olympic gold medal, I need to be more dedicated, I need to work harder’.”

While many titles, world records and medals followed, Bolt says that “dominating throughout the years is very important to the legacy that I built for myself. Anybody can win one Olympics, but to actually win three back-to-back Olympics over the span of eight to ten years is very difficult. For me, that’s how I kept myself motivated and focused because I didn’t skip a year, I didn’t focus on four years to come, I focused on every year throughout, because those years were also important to dominate and to keep training and work at a high level. He admits that he missed being at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo last year: “When I watched the Olympics, I really missed it. Especially watching the Mens’ 100m and not seeing a Jamaican in the finals really made me miss it and really wanted to be there. For me, the girls did extremely well for Jamaica. They really showed up. Again.” Bolt says he fully embraces the vision of “Only See Great”. “Greatness is just being yourself and dominating at a high level over years and doing things that no one has ever done before”, added the World’s fastest man.
