Innovation Friday: Clever, Sustainability-Focused Products that Save Lives

Corporate We have no control over the circumstances we’re born into. Any of us could have just as easily popped into this planet in a family who collects trash for recycling for a living, where education is a luxury. But the world is shrinking. And technology is advancing. Meaning the shoes you buy in Paris could feed a family in Haiti. Or educate a child in the Taiwan. PUMA is teaming up with First Mile to make this a reality. Top marks for sustainability

Corporate PUMA has made it into the top 10 of the most sustainable companies in Germany, according to a recent survey of German magazine Stern and research organisation Statista. According to the survey, PUMA is by far the most sustainable company in the textile and sportswear industries. Statista and Stern surveyed 2000 companies and interviewed 13,000 people to create the ranking. All companies in the survey had more than 500 employees, though companies in the defence industry and those with exceptionally high carbon emissions were excluded. The survey analysed environmental factors such as waste, emissions, and the use of renewable energies, social factors such as women in leadership positions, staff turnover and human rights policies, as well as economic criteria such as corporate governance policies, anti corruption policies and financial stability. It also asked a panel of 13,000 people which companies they thought did most for sustainability. Out of 100 possible points, PUMA scored 85, giving it the 10th spot in the overall ranking. You can read the full article here (In German). Inform, Inspire and be Forever Better

Corporate In September, PUMA hosted its Conference of the People, a global event to discuss solutions for a more sustainable fashion industry which put Gen Z at the center of the debate. Inspired by this idea, PUMA Oceania created a “Mini COP” in partnership with its retail partner Platypus. We spoke with Bridget Hanson, PUMA Australia’s Commercial Marketing Teamhead about the event.  The mini COP, which was held as part of the 2022 Platypus Managers Conference, was designed to bring the voices of Gen Z together with the fashion industry to discuss more sustainable processes and practices in the region.  Ahead of the COP in London, PUMA conducted research among young people ( 6,000 people aged 18-25), which revealed that while 94% of participants care about the environment, a quarter (26%) of those surveyed did not feel that there is a platform for their generation’s opinions regarding environmental sustainability. The mini COP was the perfect opportunity to help change this!
