Why the fit of a Sports Bra is so important

Sport You wouldn’t go out running in shorts that are too wide for you, or a shirt that’s too tight. It’s just common sense. The same goes for what we wear under our exercise outfit. As part of our the Future is Female initiative, we have just launched a nifty new bra finder tool on PUMA.com to help women find the right bra – whether that is indeed for long distance running, a turn on the treadmill, or a yoga session. The PUMA Bra Finder comes up automatically when visiting the bra section in our online store, and gives the customer a pick of products depending on what kind of exercise you want to do – from high to low impact. Choosing the right bra for the specific workout is really important, primarily to prevent bounce. For example, high impact bras are perfect for activities such as running, boot camps, volleyball – in short, any exercise that involves jumping up and down quickly. Meanwhile, medium to low impact bras can be worn for yoga, barre class, Pilates, or even as an everyday bra. That’s not the only factor when choosing the perfect bra, though. “Another consideration when choosing the right bra is cup, size, function and style,” says Denise Smith, our Head of Design for Running/Training Apparel. “For example, high impact bras have built-in functional qualities such as power mesh for support and breathability, stabilizers to reduce bounce, adjustability as well as built-in cups for additional comfort and support.” An example is our PWRSHAPE bra, which offers all of the above without sacrificing style. “Our Women’s Training designer Amy Wadcan created the PWRSHAPE bra and introduced a new silhouette that is inspired by a bandeau look. She also brought the power mesh to the outside to showcase its function in a fashionable way,” said Denise. Low impact bras like the Yogini bra, on the other hand, are less built up and often have thinner straps and removable cups. Heike Zenkel, Teamhead Content Management Global e-Commerce, likes the Yogini Live for the straps, which give an athletic back a nice female touch. She has been overseeing the implementation of the new Bra Finder on PUMA.com and its distribution to the different regions. “The use of the bra finder is multi-facetted,” said Heike. “It offers site visitors a way to actively engage with our products and makes the selection easier and more fun. It also reduces the returns rate, because you get what you ask for.” The Bra Finder is being rolled out on PUMA.com first in Europe, Japan and Russia (in the U.S., we are currently using a visual filter that has more or less the same idea behind it.) The Bull and the Cat

Sport Celebratory champagne drunk from a shoe, Lederhosen race suits and podium places: Six months into our partnership and at the start of the second half of the Formula 1 season, our partnered team Red Bull Racing shows how great things are achieved when two strong, determined brands work together. With 274 points, Red Bull Racing is currently the second-best team in Formula 1 – and the rest of the season is still to come. Its drivers, Australian Daniel Ricciardo and Belgian-Dutch Max Verstappen, have represented the PUMA brand in many races since the partnership came into effect in February and currently hold the third and sixth place respectively in the drivers standing. Max Verstappen is one of the biggest newcomers in recent F1 history. The youngster has obviously inherited his father’s racing talent and has made history as youngest Grand Prix winner of all time, when he stepped onto the podium at this year’s Spanish Grand Prix. He proved that his performance was not a one-hit-wonder, as he raced to second places in Silverstone and Melbourne. He also underlined his abilities by finishing third at the German Grand Prix. At this season’s half time, Verstappen ranks sixth in the overall driver’s championship. His teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, has been able to combine talent with growing experience and has become one of F1’s most respected drivers. His performances are consistent and he is ranked third best driver in the championship, with two third places in Monaco and Hungary and two second places in Germany and Belgium. The latest podium place for Ricciardo was in Spa, a diverse circuit anticipated eagerly by many F1 drivers for its hilliness, turns and chicanes such as “Eau Rouge” or “Blanchimont”; and by fans as one of the most entertaining races to watch. On location, PUMA colleagues like Gregor Huebner from the Sports Marketing Motorsport team, take care of our partners and ensure that the PUMA race wear is ready to take on the heavy duty of this weekend. We, as the official licensed partner and supplier of team and race wear, equip the Formula 1 Red Bull Racing drivers with the fireproof suits and footwear they need on track. Whether our ‘usual’ suits or a special traditional Lederhosen version for the Austrian GP – our PUMA race wear products have already withstood extreme weather conditions and have been successfully proving themselves in the extreme heat of Spain or Abu Dhabi and heavy rain of Spielberg. Golf at the Olympics

Sport Golf was part of the Olympic Games for the first time since 1906 – and after a century hiatus, it returned with a bang! Bob Philion, President & CEO of COBRA PUMA GOLF, was fortunate enough to attend the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro along with the brand’s Tour Representative, Ben Schomin, to support the athletes and meet with the golfing federations during the games. From the athletes, to the storylines to the exciting finish, it was in his opinion a big win for the game as well as for COBRA PUMA GOLF. “I can tell you first hand that the excitement was palpable as thousands of fans lined the fairways each day hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite golfers. Actors, including Matthew Mcconaughey, and fellow Olympic athletes joined the throngs of fans on course cheering on both the men and women golfers. Golf at the Olympics

How to find the perfect running shoe

Sport When it comes to running, you might think you know what type of shoe meets your personal needs. But do you really? The running shoe market is flooded with numerous brands and technologies, making it hard for consumers to decide on which one to go with. But what is it that matters when it comes to the perfect running shoe? In the 80s and 90s, the general expert opinion was that a good running shoe must cushion, protect and guide the foot. Because of the high forces impacting the body whilst running, footwear companies laid their focus on maximum cushioning. As a result, shoes gradually became heavier, affected the runner’s muscular endurance negatively and also caused many shoes to lack stability. This led researchers to invent technologies that should protect and guide the runner’s foot and movement. Shoes eventually became so overladen with additional running technologies to protect and support, that it caused just the opposite to happen. To be fair, injuries cannot be tied solely to the wrong choice of footwear. A much ignored factor is the athlete’s natural predisposition, that is the way his anatomy is structured. And many tend to ignore the importance of warming up properly. Skipping your warm-up, especially when you increase tempo, can lead to serious injuries. How to find the perfect running shoe

Borussia Dortmund resists trend of egaming

Sport  “One more minute left of overtime. There’s some potential in this move. Good touch. Now he can cross it. Tackle. Oh! It’s a penalty! What a moment they’ve given away. The player’s coming up now. What a brilliant touch and it’s in! The crowd is going absolutey insane. It’s over, surely. Yes, there’s the final whistle. Congratulations to the new Bundesliga champions!“ If you thought we were talking Bayern Munich here, you are wrong. And it is not the German Bundesliga either. It is a scene of a TAG Heuer Virtual Bundesliga match – a football game where players are avatars, being moved by teenagers through game controllers. Virtual football is booming. Gamers from around Germany compete against each other playing EA Sports “FiFA” on Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Sky Sports has even secured broadcasting rights for those virtual matches. It’s not a surprise that real football clubs have jumped on the bandwagon. German Bundesliga clubs VfL Wolfsburg and Schalke 04 have established professional e-Sports teams, consisting of gamers who compete in the so-called “TAG Heuer Virtual Bundesliga”. But what about PUMA club Borussia Dortmund? The rise of e-Sports has not remained unknown to its managers. But unlike Schalke and Wolfsburg, BVB has decided to not move into the e-Sports sector. For them, e-Sports is an independent business in itself, which cannot be simply integrated into their club structure in a “by-the-way” style. Borussia Dortmund resists trend of egaming

“It was my childhood dream”

Sport It all came down to the last race of the 2016 season: two drivers, one title: It was Nico Rosberg versus Lewis Hamilton at the final race of the year’s Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi. Both MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS drivers still had the chance to take the overall win, but while Hamilton won the race, his teammate and rival won the title: Nico Rosberg is the new F1 World Champion. Finishing the race in second place, Rosberg is the first German in a German constructor’s car to claim the throne. The 31-year-old drove to a final score of 385 points and is now the second World Champion of his family, succeeding his father and champion of 1982 “Keke” Rosberg. “It was my childhood dream to win the world championship and that’s done,” said Rosberg after his victory. The start of the race in Abu Dhabi saw the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS drivers sprint off the line, with Hamilton leading Rosberg. The race proceeded without major incidents or mistakes for both drivers, which forced Hamilton into trying to back up his team mate, as he needed him to finish fourth or worse. Hamilton reduced his pace and made the gap between him and his rival Rosberg come down to less than a second. Rosberg felt the pressure from the other drivers closing in on him from behind, but kept his cool and his driving flawless. Hamilton passed the chequered flag 0.4s ahead of Rosberg to score his 10th win of the season, 53rd of his career and to pass on his world title to Nico by 5 points. “It was my childhood dream”

Train smart with HIIT

Sport The pace of life is speeding up and our time is becoming increasingly precious to us. Having said that, as a fitness professional I am still amazed when a client tells me they don’t have the time to exercise. Exercising regularly not only has incredible physical benefits, but is also shown to improve mood, promote better sleep and boost energy, making you more productive throughout the day. Make your habits stick in 5 steps

Sport You’ve probably already experienced this yourself: So often you kick-off a new health and fitness plan with the best of intentions. You train consistently and start to see results and then something pops up; a birthday, a wedding, work drinks or a night out with friends. You are left with a decent hangover looking for food to console your sore head. Suddenly getting back into training seems so much harder and the distance between where you are and your goal seems to stretch. Make your habits stick in 5 steps
