The perfect golf shoe

Sport The new TITANTO UR IGNITE golf shoe is PUMA Golf’s most comfortable shoe to date! COBRA PUMA GOLF athlete, Rickie Fowler, will wear these shoes during every professional round played during the 2016 golf season. From the second he put them on, Rickie wanted to wear these shoes. Our COBRA PUMA GOLF Head of Golf Footwear, Grant Knudson, shares some insights into Rickie’s new shoes and what makes them his favorites to wear on course. Knudson, who’s been with PUMA Golf since 2012, has the fun task of working with his talented footwear team, consumers and PUMA athletes to create and market the next big shoe in golf. How involved was Rickie in the design, colour selection, creation of these TITANTOUR IGNITE Shoes? Rickie is involved throughout the entire process from concept to creation. He’s a trendsetter when it comes to style, so whenever we have the chance to pick his brain we take full advantage. Many of the fun footwear stunts and crazy styles are a direct result of meetings we conduct with Rickie during PUMA Golf photoshoots. Stay tuned in 2016 for these fun additions! What are the most important things that Rickie looks for in a golf shoe? Rickie looks for fit, comfort and excellent traction in his performance golf footwear. In golf, the swing starts from the ground up so the shoes on his feet are just as important as the clubs in his hands. The fit is critical – he wants something that is both snug and supportive. Comfort is critical as well. The last thing you want to be worried about when you’re facing off against the best golfers in the world on live television, is your shoes! The perfect golf shoe

Sport Black is beautiful. And so is yellow. We have unveiled the new home kit for our PUMA team Borussia Dortmund, which they will be wearing throughout the 2016/17 season. Evoknit – The future of football kit design

Sport In the past, you might have associated the word “knit” with the heavy jumpers your favourite aunt made you – now, it more often describes a light-weight technology innovation used anywhere from the uppers of running shoes to sock liners. We’ve now used the technology to develop a brand new type of football kit. Named evoKNIT, it makes for lightweight, form-fitting comfort whilst also offering good temperature regulation and a performance advantage to the wearer. It also allows us to create a seamless torso never before seen on pitch. But how can a knit fabric regulate temperature and moisture? The answer is the push-pull effect created by two yarns. The yarn closest to the skin rapidly removes sweat from the athlete’s body, while the top layer yarn then pushes the moisture away and completely removes it. To achieve this, we worked with highly technical machinery that until now has never been used in the football industry.   Evoknit – The future of football kit design

The perfect stage

Sport “Which brand will dominate the EURO?”, German sport magazine kicker asked recently. It was talking about the number of teams a sports brand equips and the visibility of its logo on the pitch that comes along with it. With Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic – and their promising national teams with the PUMA Cat on their chests – all of our European PUMA teams will contribute to a strong brand presence in this year’s competition alongside our sponsored players in the PUMA boots. Especially big football events have developed into invaluable assets, as they are the perfect stage to showcase our companies’ products. “The product development nowadays just circles around the EURO and the World Cup. Therefore, an event like the EURO is extremely important for PUMA, because we always launch our innovations on the back of these events”, Johan Adamsson, our Director of Sports Marketing & Sports Licensing said. “The reason for this is to increase our credibility with these super athletes wearing our products on the pitch or on the track.“   The perfect stage

Jumping Ahead

Sport The future is female – and we’re continuing to grow our women’s category with top female athletes. The latest to join the PUMA family: Alexandra Wester. The German long jumper made her major competition debut earlier this year at only 21 years of age and joins a growing list of young female PUMA athletes that includes Jenna Prandini (US sprinter), Natasha Morrison (Jamaican sprinter), Anthonique Strachan (Bahamian sprinter) and Michelle Jenneke (Australian hurdler). Wester is quickly establishing herself as one of the potential stars of her sport and discipline. In her first year at world class level, she finished sixth at the IAAF world indoor championships and is a strong candidate for a medal in Rio. The 22-year-old has been attracting attention recently with top performances – like jumping 6.95m indoors at the beginning of this year – matching previous German stars like Heike Drechsler, Olympic champion in Barcelona 1992 and Sydney 2000, as well as her charm and charisma away from the long jump track. Ballet Dancers are Athletes

Sport Strength, movement, performance – ballet needs all three, just like any other sport. And its dancers need the right training apparel, just like any other athlete. This is why we have got together with one of the foremost dance companies in the world, New York City Ballet, as the official active wear partner. That means that we will be providing offstage rehearsal apparel to the more than 90 dancers of the company. Additionally, the partnership will offer us a great opportunity to feature the dancers in our ad campaigns and show our commitment within the women’s training category. “This partnership brings PUMA a great set of ambassadors, people who are truly top athletes as well as top creative minds,” said Adam Petrick, our Global Brand & Marketing Director, when the partnership was first announced. “You have got world-class performers, who use their bodies more extensively and effectively than anyone in the world. Their training regime is ridiculous.”   Ballet Dancers are Athletes

Racing in Lederhosen

Sport All Formula 1 fans’ eyes were on Austria last weekend – and on the drivers from our partnered teams, who took all three top positions in the Austrian Grand Prix, including one in lederhosen. The first place on the podium went to Lewis Hamilton from our partnered team MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS. He won a thrilling Grand Prix having started from the pole position and leading the first 21 laps of the race. After a collision with teammate Nico Rosberg on the last lap, Hamilton passed over the finish line in first position with a time of 1:27:38.107. The third place went to Kimi Räikkönen (+6.024 after Hamilton), who drives for our long-time partner Ferrari; and between them, in second place, stood Max Verstappen from our team Red Bull Racing. Verstappen didn’t just get attention for coming in second (+5.719 after Hamilton), but also for his rather unusual racewear – a lederhosen race suit! Both Max Verstappen and his teammate Daniel Ricciardo hit the Red Bull Ring in special Austrian style. Especially for the Red Bull Racing Team’s home GP, we redesigned their fireproof race suits with a local “home kit” look, adorning the traditional colours with an Austrian lederhosen. Originally, the lederhosen race suits were planned only for Friday, but the two drivers loved them so much, they kept them on throughout the GP.   Racing in Lederhosen

Puma signs deal with Barbados

Sport Jamaica, Cuba, Grenada, Dominican Republic and the Bahamas are five prominent Carribbean nations that are already part of our track & field portfolio. Now we have added a sixth, Barbados, with whose Athletics Association we have just signed a partnership. “Barbados is another Caribbean country where the spirit and appeal of track and field really sweeps across the island,” said Pascal Rolling, Head of Sports Marketing for Running. “There is a passion for the sport, that connects it with the other federations we have under contract and it’s a great addition for us. We’re very happy to have signed this deal.” Teaming up with the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) means we are continuing our focus on an area of the world with some of the fastest athletes. They will be supplied with PUMA race and training wear including all the federation apparel needs throughout the next three major summer championships. The Track & Field Team will already wear PUMA apparel later this year during the Olympics in Rio and continue to do so throughout the next two IAAF World Championships. We also have a separate partnership with one of the athletes from the Barbados’ Team, Ramon Gittens, who won a bronze medal over 60m in the World Indoor championships this year.   Puma signs deal with Barbados

Griezmann of the match

Sport PUMA player Antoine Griezmann scored twice in last night’s Semi-Final match against Germany, catapulting his side to the Final of the European Championship. After converting a much-debated penalty for a handball by Bastian Schweinsteiger in the first half, Griezmann sealed France’s victory in Marseille with another goal in the second half of the game. Griezmann was already the top scorer of the tournament, but confirmed his lead with last night’s additions, now in the scoring lead with six goals and two assists overall. All of his goals were made in his PUMA evoSPEED Tricks boots, giving our brand great visibility when the cameras zoomed in on his feet after each score. “For me, the player who will stand out is Antoine Griezmann – because he is French! Seriously, Griezmann has developed into an offensive leader for France and his club team,” said our Head of Business Unit Marketing Teamsport, Dominique Gathier, when we had asked him which PUMA player will stand out in the tournament – so far, he is completely right! The true Winners of the Euro 2016

Sport It was the highest number of goals scored by a player in a European Championship tournament since Michel Platini’s nine goals in 1984: France’s Antoine Griezmann was crowned top scorer of the Euro 2016, having shot six goals with his PUMA Tricks. Fair enough that UEFA named him “Player of the Tournament”. PUMA player Olivier Giroud was ranked third in the scoring table, while European Champion Portugal’s goalie Rui Patricio also sported the yellow-pink boots and gloves on the pitch – in addition to players like Fàbregas, Nolito, Buffon, Chiellini, Lallana, Krychowiak. “I am happy with PUMA’s performance in the Euro 2016,” said PUMA CEO Bjørn Gulden. “I felt that our players and teams looked good and performed well. Griezmann as the top scorer with our boots and Rui Patricio as one of the best goalies were the true winners of the tournament.” The true Winners of the Euro 2016

Building on Women

Sport Our female audience remains a big priority for us, which is why we have continued to add to our rapidly growing women’s football category with four new additions: players of the German women’s national team Lina Magull (SC Freiburg, on loan from VfL Wolfsburg), Svenja Huth (1. FFC Turbine Potsdam), Isabel Kerschowski (VfL Wolfsburg) and Mandy Islacker (FFC Frankfurt) have just signed with us. All four are players on the German national women’s team and from strong football backgrounds, reinforcing our strong line-up that also includes Anja Mittag (Paris Saint-Germain), Alexandra Popp (VfL Wolfsburg), Simone Laudehr (FC Bayern München), Lena Goeßling (VfL Wolfsburg), Pauline Bremer (Olympique Lyon), Lena Petermann (SC Freiburg), Babett Peter (VfL Wolfsburg), Tabea Kemme (1. FFC Turbine Potsdam), Kathrin Hendrich (Bayer 04 Leverkusen) and Josephine Henning (Arsenal L.F.C.,  1. FFC Turbine Potsdam) – giving us a leading position in the German women’s national team. Each of the four new players will be provided with our training and performance wear, and will first step out on pitch in PUMA boots in a friendly against Ghana, a key match and final test in the preparations for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
