PUMA athlete Lewis Hamilton founds team in new Extreme E series start-up
SportstyleSport
We are excited about Lewis Hamilton’s latest project! The PUMA athlete and six-time Formula 1 world champion has launched a team to compete in the new electric off-road racing series, Extreme E, which aims to shed light on environmental issues.
The new climate-aware sport is scheduled to begin in January 2021. This is the first time Lewis has ventured into another type of motorsport since making his F1 debut for McLaren in 2007. Since then he has won 89 races, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers of all time. For the avoidance of any doubt, Lewis will not be driving in Extreme E and will not hold an operational role with the new team. Therefore his new project will not interfere with nor distract Lewis from his focus on chasing F1 championships with us in the years ahead.

PUMA launches netball campaign #WitnessFearless to show the power of unity
Sport
Let’s put netball in the spotlight ! For PUMA, netball is FEARLESS, and our netballers are FEARLESS athletes, giving everything to compete at the highest level in their sport. We now launched #WitnessFearless, a rallying call to netball fans to band together in support of the sport.
Netball is a physically demanding, tough and rigorous sport. Professional netballers face many challenges. They are professional athletes, who are also working, studying, looking after families and juggling early morning training sessions and travelling to compete in a National competition. With the #WitnessFearness campaign PUMA and netball club Melbourne Vixens aim to rally the netball community behind the sport to show the power of unity, the fearlessness of the sport and what netball really is. #WitnessFearless also challenges others, such as fans of others sports and the media, to think differently and to see netball in a different light.

At 53, PUMA Football Player “King” Kazu Miura became the oldest player in Japan’s J.League
Sport
When Japanese player Kazuyoshi Miura played his first professional football game for Brazilian side Santos in 1986, Neymar Jr., Luis Suárez and Antoine Griezmann had not yet been born. Yet on Wednesday, Miura, or “King” Kazu as he is known by his fans, became the oldest player in Japan’s top professional league at the age of 53 years old, 6 months and 28 days.
Born in 1967, Miura moved to Brazil at a young age and made his professional debut for Santos, the club where Neymar Jr. would also play his first “Brasileirão” match 23 years later. His long career as a forward would take him to other clubs in Brazil but also to Italy, Croatia, Australia and his native Japan. He also became one of the top scorers of the Japanese national team, for which he made 89 appearances between 1990 and 2000 and scored 55 goals. He already set the record for the J.League’s oldest goal scorer, when he scored in March 2017 at the age of 50 years old.
For 34 years, Miura has been a proud member of the PUMA family. His new record on Wednesday was also an opportunity for PUMA Japan show off the PUMA KING football boot with a special dedication stitched onto its leather: KAZU with a crown placed next to it and the Portuguese words “Boa Sorte”, meaning “Good Luck”, placed underneath.

It may not be as simple to recover from a professional football game at the age of 53, compared to someone aged in their 20s, but King Kazu remains determined to keep on playing. His many fans thank him for it!

Interview with PUMA Yoga ambassador and Spanish TV-moderator Cristina Pedroche

Today the new PUMA Yoga studio collection launches- Versatile and with an extra dose of style! A woman who combines and transports both elements very well, is Spanish PUMA ambassador Cristina Pedroche.
The 31-year-old is especially well-known in Spain as a TV personality. Cristina is the face of PUMA’s yoga collections in the region. With us, she spoke about female empowerment, her life as a public figure and her workout routine.
As a woman who stands for female empowerment, what does female empowerment mean to you and is there something every woman should be aware of?
For me, empowerment means being myself, fight for what I believe in, feeling free. Free to make decisions and be whatever I want to be. Everyone should be able to be whatever they want, regardless of their race, sexual identity, social position, religion. I like thinking that we all fight for a freer society, where we don’t harm to each other.
Being in the public eye, you have to face criticism. Where do you get the braveness and strength from, not letting certain comments bring you down?
Being free. I feel confident of what I am doing and what I am. I understand that I can’t be liked by everyone, and I relativize criticism a lot, both the good and the bad. I’m always surrounded by my family and my closest friend. They are the ones I listen to the most.
Your positive attitude is encouraging. What’s your key to being confident and positive?
I always try to get the positive side of things. Life is a long road in which there are many obstacles. We can’t change those obstacles but we can change our attitude. With a positive attitude, everything looks easier and more bearable.
