PUMA’s next-generation Slipstream sneaker brings ‘80s basketball to the modern day. Honoring its performance legacy, the 2023 Slipstream is a court classic reinvented.

The new Slipstream New Lux retains the court DNA of its predecessor. This fresh and refined evolution of the Slipstream embodies clean design, with a two-tone colorway that allows materials, shapes, and accents to come to the forefront. The newly reimagined upper is swept with a tonal color scheme that is expressed through a smooth leather upper, overlaid with panels in a complementary sand hue. Creating a hand-finished feel, subtle tacked stitching appears on the upper, as well as the leather tongue badge.

PUMA HOOPS AND BREANNA STEWART LAUNCH THE STEWIE 2 RUBY

Global sports brand PUMA and WNBA MVP and Champion Breanna Stewart are launching the Stewie 2 ahead of 2023 season.

Inspired by the elements of nature, the Stewie 2 outsole embodies fire, wind, and water to represent Stewie’s ability to be a force of nature both on and off the court.

New York’s deep love for basketball is at the center of the fourth “New York Worldwide” collection between longtime collaborators PUMA and Rhuigi.

This latest drop offers up a nostalgic range of footwear and apparel fronted by New York City basketball's past and present faces: RJ Barrett and Walt "Clyde" Frazier.

 

A story that has played out in the stadiums, schoolyards, and street courts of the five boroughs, the PUMA x Rhuigi collaboration designed by West Coast-based designer Rhuigi Villaseñor derives its creative inspiration from the cultural hub of New York City, while reinterpreting the style codes of Americana.

The latest collection features a curated assortment of footwear and apparel, all inspired by classic court aesthetics. PUMA TO LAUNCH THREE NEW MB.01 STYLES IN FEBRUARY
Latest drop to include collaboration with Warner Bros. Consumer Products based on Adult Swim’s animated series “Rick and Morty”

In December, global sports company PUMA released LaMelo Ball’s first signature shoe with the brand, MB.01. The new silhouette marked PUMA’s latest signature shoe since entering back into the basketball category in 2018.

MB.01 was co-designed by LaMelo, incorporating his personal style throughout the shoe from bold color choices to intricate unique details. The three new silhouettes set to release in February include fresh bright colors with the same artistic outline of flames shooting down from the ankle collar and the word “Rare” stamped on the shoe’s rubber bottom. Officially licensed from Warner Bros. Consumer Products, a highlight of the new drop includes limited-edition shoes and apparel inspired by Adult Swim’s hit series, “Rick and Morty.”


The latest MB.01s will continue to feature PUMA’s performance technology including Nitro Foam throughout the midsole for superior responsiveness and comfort, full coverage non-slip rubber compound for enhanced durability and traction, and breathable monomesh for a supportive and ultra-lightweight feel. The 3D-printed disruptive upper construction completes the shoe’s sleek design.

MB.01 Buzz City, named after Charlotte, North Carolina, represents LaMelo launching his NBA career with the Charlotte Hornets. This all-over black shoe features sleek teal accents that pays homage to the NBA team that drafted LaMelo in 2020. LaMelo Ball is stepping into another dimension with the MB.01 Rick and Morty. PUMA teamed up with LaMelo’s favorite Adult Swim program to create an exclusive new collection, with designs inspired by Rick and Morty. Classic streetwear pieces and the MB.01 – LaMelo’s signature PUMA shoe – are reimagined with neon colors and custom graphics. The limited-edition collab will feature the MB.01 Rick and Morty sneakers and six apparel items including: the Rick Hoodie, Rick Pant, Rick and Morty Long-Sleeved Tee, Rick and Morty Short-Sleeved Tee, Slime Onesie and the Rick and Morty Short. The MB.01 Rick and Morty collection will be available February 18 on PUMA.com, at PUMA stores and at select retailers worldwide.

 

The MB.01, Grey & Red style features an all-over grey exterior adorned with red accents throughout the shoe’s design including the flames at the ankle collar. MB.01 will be available on PUMA.com and exclusively at Champs Sports and Eastbay starting February 18.

SLIPSTREAM LO SASHIKO
The Slipstream Mid was a basketball shoe born in 1987 as a successor to the SKY LX. It became an iconic sneaker silhouette, favored by basketball players on the courts for its performance, stability, and cushioning. Off-court, it made its way to the streets, finding a following among sneaker connoisseurs for its unique design.

Given its growing popularity, in 1988 (just one year after the basketball launch), lifestyle models such as THE BEAST and SLIPSTREAM SNAKE were also released. PUMA pioneered the lifestyle space with the two styles, using material embellishments like faux snakeskin, leather, and faux fur. These models gained notoriety in Japan, eventually leading to Made in Japan versions in the early 2000s. The Slipstream Lo version was also released as a lifestyle model, further expanding the shoe's reach, and adding to the wide range of offerings.

As the Slipstream Lo makes its return in 2022, its past connection to Japan is brought in for inspiration with the release of the Slipstream Lo Sashiko. Coming in a more sophisticated tone, the Slipstream Lo Sashiko refers to the Japanese decorative stitching technique used on blue fabric, typically with white thread. The shoe comes in a blue canvas and suede upper with white Sashiko stitching on the quarter. To add a personal touch, it also comes with scrap pieces of material in a pouch that the consumer can stitch on the upper themselves.

PUMA ambassador and Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team driver George Russell has been soaking up the unique stateside lifestyle of Miami ahead of the inaugural Miami Grand Prix. In a basketball training session with NBA player Isaiah Stewart both athletes dis-cussed their promising careers.

Before the speed and excitement of round five of the 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship,  PUMA invited George Russell on a unique day tour to get a taste of Miami life and culture.

Starting off with an adrenaline kick of a high-powered speedboat, Georg Russell had the chance to check out the shores of South Beach, mansions of Star Island, and a panorama of the downtown Miami skyline.

From the harbor, George went directly to the unique sights of the downtown Wynwood Art District, passing by the iconic large-scale art works created by some of the world’s best-known street artists.

George Russell: “I think the city is really unique. It’s's my first time here and you see how vibrant this place is, especially in this neighborhood. To come out here, experience the weather, which is great always, and see the culture is pretty special.“

In Wynwood, the Formula One driver had the chance to meet NBA player and PUMA Hoops athlete Isaiah Stewart - who currently plays as a Power Forward position for the Detroit Pistons – and to get a training session in basketball. Both athletes sat together to exchange experiences and thoughts on their rising careers as youngsters in their sports.

George Russell: „For me when I was growing up I was always the youngest and you go through this journey and I was always competing against older people and now suddenly I got to the top of Formula One and you go against the best in the business and it doesn't matter your age, you know, you got to get down to it and you got to perform.”

Isaiah Stewart: “Growing up, I've always looked up to a few basketball players and, you know, to finally share the court and play against them, it´s surreal. Though once you go out it is definitely a nice time to compete against those basketball players you have been idolizing back in the days.”

Currently placed fourth in the championship, Russell is heading into the first-ever Miami Grand Prix with extreme focus and the promise of continued push for results, with the Silver Arrows team bringing some updates to his Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 E Performance car for the coming races.

Today, Global sports company PUMA along with WNBA MVP and champion and Olympic gold medalist Breanna “Stewie” Stewart announced the upcoming Stewie 1, the first new women’s signature basketball sneaker in over a decade.

The Stewie 1 embodies Breanna’s fierce-yet-humble nature with its Quiet Fire colorway—a striking combination of neon yellow and contrasting black. The aggressive flame molding morphs into the calming ripples of water in the midsole showcasing the duality of Stewie’s game and personality, while a North Star-inspired upper captures the Forward’s brilliant talent and is a nod to her high school team.

CHILDHOOD DREAMS: PUMA HOOPS AND KYLE KUZMA CO-CREATE COLLECTION MADE WITH MORE SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
PUMA Hoops and Washington Wizards forward and entrepreneur Kyle Kuzma, have co-created a collection which includes styles made with more sustainable materials such as recycled and plastic-free fabrics and takes inspiration from Kuzma’s youth and early basketball aspirations.

The collection combines nostalgic nods to the ‘90s —from color blocking to cargo pockets—with more sustainable fabrics and dye practices. Apparel pieces in the collection are made using plastic-free RE:Place fabrics or at least 20% recycled materials.

In addition, PUMA will donate $10,000 to One Tree Planted in an effort to provide 10,000 trees to a project in Kuzma’s home state of Michigan. This donation connects to Kuzma's belief that a better future blossoms by planting the seed. It’s this optimism rooted in action that’s inspired Kyle Kuzma to create his Childhood Dreams collection with PUMA.
