PUMA AND BVB LAUNCH SPECIAL EDITION RETRO JERSEY IN TRIBUTE TO THE CLUB’S MOST CELEBRATED ERA

Sport PUMA has launched an exclusive special edition retro Borussia Dortmund jersey in black and neon yellow, in honor of their success in the 90s. During that time BVB won the UEFA Champions League and two German Championships. The PUMA team has worn the retro kit during this weekend’s Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen, celebrating 111 years since their foundation. They also celebrated an important 4-1 win.   Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland scored twice in four minutes on Sunday to help his team to a 4-1 win over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga and revive their hopes of a top four finish. Maybe the retro jersey with all its memories helped the team? Every era has its own history and with each era we associate our own heroes and stories, special moments and in this case, a color. When you think of BVB in the 90s, you automatically picture heroes of that time in their neon-colored jerseys.   PUMA AND BVB LAUNCH SPECIAL EDITION RETRO JERSEY IN TRIBUTE TO THE CLUB’S MOST …

Only See Great: Interview with PUMA GM Russia and Ukraine Vladimir Gorobets

Sport He ramped up PUMA’s retail business in Russia and Ukraine and he now has set his sights on firmly establishing PUMA as a sports brand in his markets. We caught up with Vladimir Gorobets, General Manager of PUMA Russia and Ukraine, to talk about his career, the peculiarities of PUMA’s business in those countries as well as well as his vision for the future. At first sight, Russia and Ukraine are not difficult markets. “Our favorite shoe is the ST Runner in a triple black colorway,” Vladimir smiles. “Nothing dramatic: simple, stylish, black and practical.” The long winters in both countries also require a solid line-up of winterized outfits. But that where it stops being simple. In order to push high-end products to customers, you have to set up your own retail infrastructure, which is exactly what Vladimir did during his more than 15 years at PUMA. When Vladimir was 24, he joined PUMA in his native Ukraine, where he took on the project of establishing owned-and-operated retail stores in the country. “When I started in Ukraine, we had one store,” Vladimir recalls. In just 3 years’ time, Vladimir and his team opened 20 PUMA shops in the country. Following his success in Ukraine, Vladimir joined the PUMA Russia team as Head of Retail. “When I came to Russia, retail was about 35 percent of the business, five years later it was 50/50, now retail is the majority of the business,” he says – an impressive track record which eventually saw him get promoted to GM of Russia and Ukraine. But Vladimir says that career planning was never the thing that made him get up in the morning. “To be honest, I focused on what was right for the brand. I didn’t think much about career planning. There was no magic moment, just steady performance over the years,” he says. Only See Great: Interview with PUMA GM Russia and Ukraine Vladimir Gorobets

PUMA team Manchester City wins Premier League

Sport PUMA Team Manchester City has won the Premier League for the third time in four years, underscoring the fantastic work done by the team and its manager and PUMA ambassador Pep Guardiola. City, which has been wearing PUMA since the summer of 2019, are ten points clear at the top, with three matches still to be played. In spite of this commanding lead and the team wrapping up the title early, Guardiola said that the title was the most difficult the team has ever won, because of the COVID restrictions. “This has been a season and a Premier League title like no other,” Guardiola told City’s official website. “This was the hardest one. We will always remember this season for the way that we won. I am so proud to be the manager here and of this group of players.” “They are so special. To come through this season – with all the restrictions and difficulties we’ve faced – and show the consistency we have is remarkable,” he added. With the exception of a small crowd at Wembley for the final of the Carabao Cup, which City also won this year, all matches in England had to be played without any fans in the stadium. Manchester City have still one major highlight to go this year: The final of the Champions League on May 29. From all of us at PUMA: Well done City!     View this post on Instagram   A post shared by PUMA Football (@pumafootball) PUMA team Manchester City wins Premier League

PUMA Team Borussia Dortmund wins Germany’s DFB Cup

Sport PUMA Team Borussia Dortmund on Thursday won the DFB Cup by beating RB Leipzig 4-1 in an exciting final in Berlin. The win by BVB adds to what is already a fantastic week for PUMA Football in which Manchester City claimed the Premier League title. BVB took an early lead after only five minutes when PUMA player Marco Reus managed to snatch the ball in midfield, setting up Jadon Sancho to score from outside the box. Norwegian striker Erling Haaland scored the second goal in the 28th minute. Even before the half-time whistle, Borussia scored a third time, with Reus once again outwitting Leipzig’s defense before passing the ball to Sancho to score. In the second half, Leipzig upped the pressure and pulled back one goal in the 71st minute but Dortmund’s defense kept its cool. With just 3 minutes left to go in regular time, Haaland made it all clear, when he scored Borussia’s fourth goal of the evening. Overall, Dortmund was quicker in shifting from defense to attack and used its chances more efficiently. Because of the pandemic, there were no fans in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium but after the final whistle the sound of cheering Borussia players filled the venue. For Dortmund it’s the fifth time the team lifts the prestigious DFB Cup, which has been played since 1935. Congratulations from your PUMA Family, BVB!
