Nachhaltigkeit We have just published our new Sustainability Report and would like to inform you about some of the milestones and goals we achieved. We managed to cut our own carbon emissions and those coming from our supply chain between 2017 and 2021. Better Materials and renewable Energy

First electric truck starts operations at PUMA’s California warehouse

Nachhaltigkeit PUMA is always looking for ways to reduce carbon emissions across its business. Most recently, the first fully electric truck arrived at our warehouse in Torrance, California, carrying a container full of PUMA goods from the port in Los Angeles. This vehicle from our drayage partner NFI is a first test vehicle but by the third quarter of this year, we expect to have five electric trucks in operation to carry goods from the port to the warehouse.   First electric truck starts operations at PUMA’s California warehouse

Top marks for PUMA's sustainability efforts

Nachhaltigkeit PUMA is the most sustainable brand in the industry according to a report by Business of Fashion, which ranked the 30 largest listed companies in the fashion industry according to their efforts in categories such as emissions, transparency, water&chemicals, materials, worker’s rights and waste. PUMA occupied the top spot in 2022, Business of Fashion said, noting that while the company had leading scores for worker’s rights, water&chemicals and transparency, the largest leap was made in emissions. PUMA scored 49 points out of a 100, ahead of Kering with 47 and Levi Strauss with 44 points. Overall, the report pointed out that the performance among fashion brands still needed to be sharply improved, as the average score in the industry was just 28 out of a 100. Companies have to up their game to achieve critical sustainability goals by 2030, Business of Fashion added. Top marks for PUMA's sustainability efforts

Sustainable Upcycling In Turkey

Nachhaltigkeit Wouldn’t it be more sustainable to take the items you cannot sell and upcycle them to create something that is cool and desirable? That was the idea PUMA’s team in Turkey had, when they wondered what to do with apparel that had manufacturing faults or was otherwise damaged. One year ago, PUMA’s team in Turkey sat down with one of its manufacturers in the country to discuss the idea of selling the items instead of recycling or destroying them. Learn more! See how our ambassadors are participating in the RE:SUEDE biodegradability project

Nachhaltigkeit PUMA’s biodegradability project RE:SUEDE is in full swing! 500 pairs were sent out to volunteers in Germany in April, who will wear it for half a year before sending it back so we can see whether it can biodegraded. With this project, PUMA has the ambition to set new sustainability standards. The testers, including PUMA ambassadors such as Cara Delevingne or Raphaël Varane, will now wear the RE:SUEDE as part of their daily routine to gather realistic feedback about the durability of the materials used. See what Cara Delevingne, Raphaël Varane, Kyle Kuzma and others say about their experience with the shoe. See how our ambassadors are participating in the RE:SUEDE biodegradability proj…

PUMA runs first internal Swop Shop at its headquarters

Nachhaltigkeit It is fair to say that our first Swop Shop market held at our PUMA headquarters has been a success. 85 PUMA employees joined the circularity movement as they visited our market in the canteen. It included everything from clothes swapping to customized bags, music, snacks, and information on circularity. At the end of the day, 550 beloved PUMA products were swopped and 200 euros were collected for a good cause with the help of a bags customizing session. PUMA and Fashion Industry take stock on climate targets at UN Climate Conference

Nachhaltigkeit PUMA joined representatives of the fashion industry at the United Nations Climate Summit COP 27 in Egypt to increase the push for renewable energy in sourcing countries and to cut CO2 emissions from the supply chain. In 2018, the fashion industry announced a sector-wide plan of action to do its bit to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees celsius and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. PUMA had played an important part in the preparation of the agreement, the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action. PUMA representatives Stefan Seidel and Benedikt Wittmann were in Egypt to add PUMA’s weight to the call for more renewable electricity in sourcing countries and to find ways to make green energy more attractive in these markets. Another important step in decarbonising the supply chain is to get the thermal energy needed in the dyeing and finishing stages from renewable sources. With the Chinese National Apparel and Textile Federation CNTAC as well as Net Zero Pakistan there were also two important industry bodies of sourcing countries present. Major sustainability organizations Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Global Fashion Agenda and Apparel Impact Institute also joined in discussing best practices and challenges. Stefan and Benedikt were backed up by PUMA ambassador and French football star Raphaël Varane, who recorded a video message to highlight the urgency of acting now to tackle climate change. Earlier this year, PUMA announced that its own carbon emissions and those from purchased energy dropped by 88% in 2021 compared to 2017. But PUMA also managed to reduce emissions in the supply chain, the most carbon-intensive part of our business. Even though PUMA recorded strong growth of 65% between 2017 and 2021, we cut CO2 emissions from the supply chain by 12 %. If adjusted for the sales growth, greenhouse gas emissions from PUMA’s supply chain fell by 46%. PUMA and Fashion Industry take stock on climate targets at UN Climate Conference
