PUMA TEAMS UP WITH SARA BJÖRK GUNNARSDÓTTIR TO GIVE UNPRECEDENTED ACCESS TO SARA’S JOURNEY FROM PREGNANCY BACK TO ELITE LEVEL SPORT

PUMA has teamed up with PUMA athlete, Olympique Lyonnais football star and Iceland national team captain Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir to launch authentic content chartering Sara’s pregnancy journey through to her return to elite level sport. As part of PUMA’s ‘She Moves Us’ platform the various content streams will culminate with the release of a special documentary early next year following Sara’s story.

 

Before and after Sara gives birth, PUMA social channels will chronical Sara’s life during and after her pregnancy, her training regimes and offer a glimpse into her life as a mother as she balances family life with her professional career. The content and documentary will offer unprecedented, never-before-seen access into the life of a professional female athlete as she faces the challenge of returning to elite level sport after giving birth. Sara will give insight into her journey, training schedules whilst pregnant, advice and expert guidance from professionals on her body changes through the process and her recovery post-pregnancy.

Many female athletes encounter challenges and uncertainty over their careers when faced with the prospect of pregnancy. Female athletes are faced with difficult decisions with many having to retire early to start a family due to lack of support, eligibility to play and maternity pay. “Starting a family when playing a professional sport is difficult. I really want to prove that you can come back from pregnancy and play at the top level,” said Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir. “I hope to inspire women to do so and to show that there is the option of not choosing between having your family or your professional career.”

“Female athletes face many challenges in their careers and pregnancy can be one of them,” said Matthias Baeumer, General Manager BU Teamsport. “When Sara came to us with the news of her pregnancy, we wanted to support her in any way possible. Sara decided this would be a great opportunity to give insight into her journey and show female athletes that you can be a top athlete and still have a family. PUMA X BLACK FIVES LAUNCH NEW VINTAGE-INSPIRED COLLECTION RELEASING OCTOBER 8

Global sports company PUMA will be launching their second PUMA x Black Fives collection in its ongoing partnership with the Black Fives Foundation, whose mission is to research, preserve, showcase, teach and honor the pre-NBA history of African Americans in basketball.

The new collection celebrates the way teams in the Black Fives Era expanded their reach beyond neighborhoods where they began, into cities and towns throughout the United States. On the courts of these big cities and remote towns alike, they played an instrumental role in popularizing the game while providing essential cultural inspiration to Black communities across America. The collection is a reminder of their pioneering efforts, which paved the way for the success and appeal of the modern game today.

This seven-piece collection encompasses vintage-inspired designs with historical graphics and authentic logos maintained by the Foundation. Banner graphics showcase Black Fives teams along with cities they played in across the U.S. from Los Angeles to New York.

Items in the collection include multi-colored hoodie and sweatpants, shorts, T-shirt, long-sleeved T-shirt, cardigan, and a black Suede Mid Black Fives, which includes a pop of color on the sole and team logos on the formstrip.

PUMA AND HYPERCAR MAKER RIMAC CREATE THE WORLD’S FASTEST FOOTBALL BOOT

Sports company PUMA has teamed up with electric hypercar maker Rimac Automobili to develop the PUMA ULTRA SL FG, the world’s fastest football boot.

The limited-edition PUMA ULTRA SL, of which only 412 pairs will be launched, weighs a gravity defying 90 grams, combining elite-level stability, traction and lightweight properties with PUMA exclusive innovation.

“The objective of the ULTRA SL was to create the fastest, most extreme football boot possible, to give an insight into how football boots could be engineered in the future,” said Dominique Gathier, Head of Product Line Management Teamsport. “We looked at how hypercars are built and transferred these key learnings into the creation of ULTRA SL, with particular focus on how to reduce the weight of the boot whilst maintaining elite-level performance properties.”

Rimac is a Croatian based company and was founded with the vision to create sportscars for the 21st century, striving to unleash the full potential of the alternating current electric motor. The 412 pairs that PUMA will launch of the most electric ULTRA ever, reflect the 412 km/h top speed of the Rimac C_Two hypercar.

The ULTRA SL FG’s upper is constructed of a super-light woven mesh, coated in a thin layer of TPU skin to give added durability and touch on the ball. The aerodynamic silhouette features two ‘windows’ on the heel, which are directly inspired by the body work of the Rimac C_Two. The UTLRA SL also features a PEBAX outsole and integrates a custom-made, extremely lightweight tooling engineered to boost your speed with ULTRA acceleration.


The PUMA ULTRA SL will make its debut when Antoine Griezmann takes to the pitch in the UEFA Nations League fixture between France and Croatia in Rimac’s home city, Zagreb, on October 14th.

PUMA AND NANAMICA’S NEW COLLABORATION MARKS A NEW HORIZON FOR WORKWEAR

In 2022, PUMA kicked off a new collaboration with nanamica, elevating the Suede with a technical concept featuring GORE-TEX waterproofing, and wrapping the low-top silhouette with timeless colorways.

Now, PUMA and nanamica reprise their partnership to unveil a new conceptual collection centered around neo-workwear. The capsule reimagines workwear with a clean aesthetic, rooted in functionality and comfort. Injected with subtle military and nautical references, in keeping with the meaning of nanamica which translates to “House of the Seven Seas,” the collection features premium footwear and apparel that is set apart by thoughtful details and smart construction.

The PUMA Clyde is reimagined by nanamica, featuring a shroud design that conceals the eye stays, lending the shoe a functional and clean aesthetic. After multiple successful drops with PUMA Golf, crew love and summer vibes are at the center of PUMA and Palm Tree Crew’s new lifestyle collaboration.

Showcased for the first time at Palm Tree Music Festival in the Hamptons on June 24, 2023, the collection starts with classic streetwear silhouettes, which are infused with preppy, golf-inspired touches, andsummer-ready materials. DO BOTH. PUMA LAUNCHES DOCUMENTARY WITH FOOTBALL STAR SARA BJÖRK GUNNARSDÓTTIR FOLLOWING HER RETURN TO FOOTBALL AFTER GIVING BIRTH

Following Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir’s nine-month journey where she gave birth to her first child and returned to elite-level sport after just five months, PUMA hosted a special premiere of her “Do Both” documentary last night in Lyon, France.

The event hosted family, friends, along with her teammates from the Olympique Lyonnais women’s team as they witnessed the first ever screening of the documentary. The 12-minute special film compiled over a nine-month period gives unparalleled access into Sara’s journey, insights into her training while pregnant, her specialist programs and the mental challenges she encountered along the way while maintaining her career as a professional athlete for Olympique Lyonnais and the Icelandic national team.

The journey has featured blogs and social content amplified through PUMA’s ‘She Moves Us’ platform over the nine-month period culminating in the documentary film, with the goal being to raise awareness of the difficulties female athlete’s still face when becoming pregnant and the stigma associated with female athletes starting a family while still playing professionally. The documentary highlights society’s preconceptions placed on women returning to work/sport after giving birth with many female athletes facing challenges around their eligibility, maternity pay and leave, with many athletes having to retire early to start a family.

“I’ll be forever thankful that my journey to motherhood has been captured, to inspire others, to remind myself of the challenges I overcame and to show we can break down barriers and not be limited as a female athletes. We are capable or so much more,” said Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir. “I’m grateful for the support of my family and friends, and of course my partners at PUMA, who have all supported me as I prepared to welcome my son and return to playing football. I know not everyone has been able to tread the same path, and I hope the documentary can act as a universal truth that, as women and mothers, you do not have to choose between having a family and your career. You can do both.”

WORLD CHESS CHAMPION MAGNUS CARLSEN TALKS “ONLY SEE GREAT”

The recently announced PUMA Ambassador and Norwegian World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen speaks about his motivation to stay at the highest level in his sport and how he became the highest-rated player in history, in a video interview with sports company PUMA.

With the ‘Only See Great’ campaign, PUMA explores the career path of its brand ambassadors, as they talk about their own paths and how they strive for greatness, listen to their hearts, and find a vision that no one else can see.

In the interview, Carlsen talks about his extraordinary performances, winning his first Grandmaster title at 13 years old, and how the journey to success and a balanced mix of physical training and a healthy lifestyle gave him the energy to succeed.

“I have never been motivated for specific goals in my chess career. I just always wanted to learn to be better each time that I play and now I do have a goal of being the first player to reach that 2900 rating threshold in chess, but what’s more important to me is the journey that would possibly get me there. It’s being able to do all the right things to give myself a chance to do that. I care about this a lot in my day-to-day life.”

While many titles followed, Carsten, an avid sport fan, says his biggest motivation is the competition: “I love sports and that’s how I train. I do football, I started to play padel recently, I also do some exercises with a personal trainer but I always try to make it as a competition.  That is what motivates me.”

About the longest chess game in the World Championship in Dubai, Carstens says: “What was most memorable for me personally, during the last 1h of play, is that I was very calm. I was not stressed, even though there was only little time on the clock, and what I felt after I made the last move was just deep satisfaction of having pulled through and having done things the right way at the end.

The idea for PUMA’s “Only See Great” campaign was inspired by cultural icon, entrepreneur and philanthropist Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter who first said: “I only see great. I don’t see good. I don’t see compromise. We should always strive to make something great, something that will last.”

PUMA AND STAPLE’S NEW COLLABORATION IS INSPIRED BY INFLUENTIAL NEWSPAPER GIDRA

The Collection Continues the Legacy of Pivotal Asian American Social Movements Including the Gidra Student Newspaper and Stop AAPI Hate

PUMA has teamed up with streetwear brand and longtime collaborator STAPLE, to introduce a collection of footwear and apparel inspired by Gidra, an Asian-American student-run newspaper created in response to anti-Asian sentiment in 1969.

Following up on the first installment in the collection from early March, a second delivery is forthcoming on March 31. Each piece in the collection reflects the intention and art style of the original publication’s design elements and references the King Terror Pack from PUMA’s archives. 

The second drop will include three sneakers and an assortment of apparel including T-shirts, a hoodie, anorak jackets, and pants. Two PUMA Suedes, one rendered in yellow to portray the likeness of King Ghidorah and one in black and grey tones, will be included as well as a third Slipstream style in white, grey, and yellow. There will also be a friends-and-family Suede that features a peel-away upper, revealing clippings and illustrations pulled directly from the Gidra newspaper underneath.

“I’ve always loved how design is a blank canvas to tell the stories that matter the most,” says Jeff Staple. “Working with PUMA and Mike Murase of Gidra was a unique way to share this influential publication from the 1960s and connect it to the present-day movement to help Stop AAPI Hate. We’re stronger when we stand together.”

In addition to the collaboration, $20,000 has been donated to “Visual Communications Media,” a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization founded in 1970 with the mission to develop and support the voices of Asian American and Pacific Islander filmmakers and media artists who empower communities and challenge perspectives

Global sports company PUMA has signed a new long-term partnership with the most expensive British player ever Jack Grealish.
