WELCOME TO FASTER FOOTBALL: PUMA LAUNCHES NEW ERA WITH THE ULTRA 1.3 FEATURING A UNISEX AND A WOMEN-SPECIFIC FIT

See Them Later With The Next Generation ULTRA 1.3

Sports company PUMA has today invited the world to join the Faster Football movement with the unveiling of the next generation ULTRA 1.3. For the first time, PUMA will offer both a Unisex and Women-specific fit for its trailblazing new speed boot. The launch marks a huge step for PUMA and the football world as PUMA shows its commitment to pushing the game forward and further supporting Women’s football.

FASTER FOOTBALL IS A MOVEMENT. A MOVEMENT TO DO THINGS DIFFERENT AND EMBRACE CHANGE.

The aim is to speed up the game with innovative products, hero PUMA’s leaders, support young players and break down barriers.

“Faster Football is about driving positive change in football, faster. The new ULTRA is a huge leap forward and is filled with an abundance of innovative new technology. By offering a Unisex and Women-specific fit for the ULTRA, we want to cater to all our athletes, “said Matthias Bäumer, General Manager BU Teamsport. “We will continue to offer a Women-specific fit, along with our Unisex fit, giving our athletes the tools to perform at their highest level. We understand the needs are different when it comes to fit for male and female athletes therefore, we want to take progressive action to satisfy these differences.”

The ULTRA 1.3 has been crafted to See Them Later, designed to light up the game with explosive straight-line speed. To be worn by some of the world’s best players, including Antoine Griezmann, Kingsley Coman, Sergio Agüero, Nikita Parris and Eugénie Le Sommer, the UTLRA 1.3 is engineered to deliver the game’s fastest football boot.

Both ULTRA editions feature a re-engineered lightweight MATRYXEVO woven upper featuring technical Carbon yarns and transparent Mono yarns. The new upper combines with a brand new SPEEDCAGE to create multilayered support for rapid movement. The upper features cut-out transparent windows in the mid foot to further reduce weight making the ULTRA 1.3 even lighter than the ULTRA 1.2.

Additional upgrades to the ULTRA include a GripControl Pro skin that now coats the entire upper – providing a texture for decisive command over the ball. The ULTRA Unisex features an ultra-fast lightweight PEBA SpeedUnit outsole infused with running spike DNA for lightning-fast acceleration and the Women-specific ULTRA features a customized PEBA soleplate with conical studs.

With a mission to drive the game forward, PUMA has developed the new ULTRA 1.3 with two bespoke performance fits that tailor to different foot shapes based on research, data and player feedback.

Research into the anatomy of the male and female foot, combined with cross comparison fit testing, formed the basis to develop our Women-specific ULTRA said Lilly Cocks, Senior Developer Teamsport Footwear. The Women’s-edition features a regular to narrow silhouette shape, a lower instep, reduced midfoot volume and conical studs. By removing more volume from the upper we have created a boot that is more tailored to the anatomical shape of the female foot.”

See Them Later with the PUMA ULTRA 1.3 Unisex and Women’s football boot, launching as part of the Faster Football pack. The Women’s edition is available on pre-sale from July 15th with the Unisex edition available from July 16th at PUMA.com and specialist football accounts. The global in-store date for both editions is July 22nd in PUMA stores and at leading football retailers worldwide.

DO BOTH. PUMA LAUNCHES DOCUMENTARY WITH FOOTBALL STAR SARA BJÖRK GUNNARSDÓTTIR FOLLOWING HER RETURN TO FOOTBALL AFTER GIVING BIRTH

Following Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir’s nine-month journey where she gave birth to her first child and returned to elite-level sport after just five months, PUMA hosted a special premiere of her “Do Both” documentary last night in Lyon, France.

The event hosted family, friends, along with her teammates from the Olympique Lyonnais women’s team as they witnessed the first ever screening of the documentary. The 12-minute special film compiled over a nine-month period gives unparalleled access into Sara’s journey, insights into her training while pregnant, her specialist programs and the mental challenges she encountered along the way while maintaining her career as a professional athlete for Olympique Lyonnais and the Icelandic national team.

The journey has featured blogs and social content amplified through PUMA’s ‘She Moves Us’ platform over the nine-month period culminating in the documentary film, with the goal being to raise awareness of the difficulties female athlete’s still face when becoming pregnant and the stigma associated with female athletes starting a family while still playing professionally. The documentary highlights society’s preconceptions placed on women returning to work/sport after giving birth with many female athletes facing challenges around their eligibility, maternity pay and leave, with many athletes having to retire early to start a family.

“I’ll be forever thankful that my journey to motherhood has been captured, to inspire others, to remind myself of the challenges I overcame and to show we can break down barriers and not be limited as a female athletes. We are capable or so much more,” said Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir. “I’m grateful for the support of my family and friends, and of course my partners at PUMA, who have all supported me as I prepared to welcome my son and return to playing football. I know not everyone has been able to tread the same path, and I hope the documentary can act as a universal truth that, as women and mothers, you do not have to choose between having a family and your career. You can do both.”

“This has been a special project to be a part of from the moment Sara met with us and wanted to give unprecedented access to her personal journey,” said Matthias Baeumer, PUMA General Manager BU Teamsport. “Sara wanted to show that you do not have to choose between your career and starting a family. By sharing her journey, including the mental and physical challenges she has faced along the way, we hope this will inspire and give insight to athletes around the world. In a time when women’s football is going from strength to strength, it is important to bring awareness to such key topics and to show that society’s perceptions do not need to determine your path. The documentary with our partner COPA90 is a beautiful insight into her strength and unique character.”

The ‘Do Both’ Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir documentary is now available to view on PUMA’s YouTube channel here.

Running Athlete Molly Seidel frankly spoke about the sacrifices and challenges of being a female elite runner in a “She Moves Us” video conversation for Sports company PUMA:  “I’ve had to challenge male standards in my sport in the sense that there are very certain ideas about body image that have been prevalent in running for a long time, in a male dominated sport. And I think as American female distance running takes over, we’ve shown that you don’t have to be any one kind of body type to succeed. That you can have success being whoever you are.”

The Olympic Bronze Medalist, who will again compete at the upcoming Boston Marathon, wants to empower girls and young women to embarke into a career in running: “I want young women to know that you can work hard and enjoy yourself. There have been certain ideas of what it takes to be successful in this sport, and I think sometimes people equate that with you have to be serious, you have to be straight-faced. And I want to challenge that and say that I think to win you should be enjoying the hell out of what you do.”

“She Moves Us” wants to empower girls and young women through through sharing stories and joint efforts to impact their rights globally.  It is inspired by global pop-star and PUMA Ambasssador Dua Lipa who said: "Sharing stories of success is all part of changing the narrative, especially in fields like sports and entertainment that have tended to amplify the accomplishments of men. Women are already nailing it across the board and celebrating their achievements is exciting and empowering. It also encourages those rising up to aim for the stars.”

PUMA has an inclusive product offering to cater for women and girls in sport: underwear and activewear, modest sportswear, a maternity offering and performance specific products exclusively engineered for women. PUMA supports all athletes to perform at the highest level and works with organizations and partners committed to remove barriers in sports.

Designer, artist and upcycling master Nicole McLaughlin frankly spoke about the sacrifices and challenges she faced in her career in a “She Moves Us” video conversation for sports company PUMA.

”People think that the fashion industry is very much female led when in actuality it’s a lot male conversations that are driving everything that we are seeing in terms of design and fashion,“ Nicole said. “And especially within the streetwear space, I find that I’m usually the only female in the room at times.”

With her designs Nicole focuses on sustainable pieces of art, for example when she transformed old PUMA football gloves into a jacket. Her main advice to young female designers is to “be confident in the ideas that you have. People want to hear your story. They want to get to know you and what inspires you. Feel comfortable to talk about it, talk about the hardships, all the things that you faced and be comfortable sharing those things with other people because a lot of the time people have gone through the same things as you.”

SHE MOVES WITH EMPOWERED STYLE: PUMA X LIBERTY

Global sports brand PUMA and iconic design house and department store Liberty are partnering together for a sophomore collection, blurring the lines between casual sportswear and fashion. The collection features bold and exciting pieces designed for those who want to embody empowerment and independence through their style.

As a part of PUMA’s She Moves Us platform, featuring real, strong, and empowered women, this collection is inspired by the teambuilding and uplifting that is often intrinsically present in women-led collectives and initiatives. The support and encouragement with which women help each other fulfill their individual potential is at the center of this collection and campaign.

The creative was shot on a farm filled with greenery and wildlife, showcasing a group gathering to celebrate and empower each other. They came together in the British countryside to reflect and share their individual stories, providing their thoughts on empowerment, liberty, and what motivates them. Here’s a look at what they said:

“What empowers me is to see people living their true authentic self...Liberty is the autonomy and strength to walk your own path...Waking up, looking in the mirror, and being like, ‘I got this today.’”

The full conversations with Deba, Ami Evelyn Hughes, Taya Francis, and Bones Tan Jones can be read in the accompanying Q+A and heard in the campaign video.

The PUMA x Liberty collection takes the camouflage print, usually used to ‘hide and conceal’, and transforms it into a camo-inspired floral print on a line of striking statement pieces made to stand out. The two unique floral prints cover traditional silhouettes including long raincoats, pleated skirts, wide-leg pants, sweatpants, t-shirts, and crewnecks. In a mix of beige, green, and yellow, both prints are perfect for spring styling. The apparel is accompanied by a range of PUMA sneakers and accessories in classic Liberty florals including the Mayze and Suede Mayu Slip on as well as accessories like bucket hats and bags. The collection makes a graphic, bold and feminine fashion statement for all bodies and sizes.

Get your floral fit when the PUMA x LIBERTY collection drops on PUMA.com, PUMA stores and select retailers including the iconic Liberty store on London’s Regent Street, on March 5th.
