Colorful just like me!

It all started with a design collaboration between PUMA and the designers Dee & Ricky. "Everything they do is a little bit crazy but I love them. They are colorful and Lego oriented, similar to me really. The project wasn’t technically in my department, but I asked if I could give it a shot." And yes, Ben literally gave a shot.

Ben Lamprey’s move to create the line for Dee & Ricky was powered by his love of color and quirky designs. From just outside Liverpool in England, he gives off a happy energy, has a child-like sense of wonder and seems relatively laid back. But under his casual appearance he is driven and strategic. Now as Senior Designer Sportstyle Apparel, Ben is designing ranges of clothing specifically for PUMA’s collaborative partners and assets, including Big Sean and the Weeknd. "A dream I have had since I started nearly three years ago."

In our case “winning” means creating the most innovative products in the industry.

Ben’s strategic vision helped him to shape the direction of another collaboration. This time with California’s skate apparel and accessories brand, Diamond Supply. "The PUMA Suede shoe has been in the skate culture forever," Ben says, "but I always thought we could go further with it." When he proposed creating a line of skate apparel, PUMA responded by finding a collaborator. "I’m hoping that if the collaboration with Diamond Supply is successful, we’ll get to implement a skate range as part of Sportstyle."

He likens his experience at PUMA to playing football. "I’m competitive, but I like working as a team. It’s fun, it’s enjoyable and that is what drives me. You have all you need to do good work here. It’s flexible, they really look after you, and you get rewarded for your work. I feel like we have the same goal as footballers out on the pitch, we are just in another realm. The footballer wants to win the league, and we want to win the league too but in our case “winning” means creating the most innovative products in the industry."
