Your Mission

The Vice President of Retail Merchandising is responsible for developing and managing footwear, apparel and accessory assortments that drive PUMA North America’s Direct to Consumer business, deliver margin and revenue targets, and appropriately position the brand in the North America retail marketplace.

This role is an integral partner to the global product development organization, a key leadership voice in the management of the region, an integral partner within the retail department, a critical partner with the wholesale merchandising team, and lead partner in managing the joint venture partners on behalf of the retail organization.  This individual will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the marketplace trends and dynamics, the competitive landscape, and deliver the appropriate product ranges to continue to maximize and grow all Direct to Consumer channels. They will be able to effectively work cross functionally and source, develop, and manage emerging talent.  This individual is directly responsible for the hiring and development of the retail merchandising team for all Direct to Consumer channels and product divisions. 

PRODUCT:

  • Develop brand right assortments across all retail channels of distribution inclusive of stores and e-commerce channels. 

  • Achieve marketplace excellence, revenue growth, and profitability goals in close partnership with relevant departments. 

  • Knowledge of key consumer and competitive trends to ensure assortments are relevant and differentiated by channel. 

  • Be retails voice in all product development and go to market strategies for PNA retail working closely with the wholesale and global merchandising teams to deliver a cohesive brand merchandising strategy. 

  • Work with regional engine to develop any region-specific stories or programs to drive profitable growth and localized relevancy - ensuring adequate exclusivity for retail channels. 

PRICING/PROFITABILITY :

  • Direct assortment strategies across all categories to ensure all revenue and margin goals per channel can be achieved. 

  • Lead PNA retail product strategies and buying ensuring a diverse product offering that meets the financial objectives of PNA retail. 

  • Partner with global and regional product creation to continually improve product margins. 

  • Work cross functionally with the VP of Planning and allocations to ensure assortment plans are adjusted on an ongoing basis to capitalize on market trends and commercial opportunities.

 PRODUCT PRESENTATION: 

  • Present key concepts and stories at critical milestone meetings on behalf of retail. (Line Freeze, 360 launch meetings, Field Leadership Meetings, etc.) 

  • Be the voice of the retail brand strategy to key stake holders ensuring retail product needs are met and exceeded. 

  • Prepare and present merchandising and market updates for all retail and PNA business reviews ensuring that the leadership teams are kept up to date on merchandising initiatives and KPI’s. 

LEADERSHIP: 

  • Lead with exceptional ability to understand what makes a product successful.  

  • An established understanding of leading with a customer-first mindset. 

  • Successfully drive global merchandising strategies that deliver against both financial and brand objectives.  

  • Experience in building brands with functional and emotional relevance and commercial success.  

  • Ability to think critically and anticipate future trends and incorporate them into organizational plans.  

  • Strong leadership background with a variety of merchandising concepts, processes, and experiences. 

  • Set a clear direction for the merchandising department that aligns with the regional strategies and financial targets.  

  • Identify, grow, and develop talent within the department.

Your Talent

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business’ MBA preferred 

  • Minimum of 10 years of Retail experience with at least 7+ years in executive management in retail merchandising 

  • Success in creating and implementing merchandising strategies to increase revenue and margin. 

  • Demonstrated success recruiting, developing, and managing teams. 

  • Strong analytic background combined with a consumer-centric merchandising to achieve financial and brand objectives. 

  • Deadline driven, with ability to prioritize and deliver results in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal presentation and written skills. 

  • Track record of establishing an independent view while effectively collaborating in decision-making forums. 

  • 30% domestic & international travel.
