Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

FSC was founded in 1993 as an outcome of the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. FSC is a global not-for-profit organization that sets the standards for what is a responsibly managed forest, both environmentally and socially. By consulting with businesses, NGOs, communities, workers, and Indigenous Peoples, they continually develop, and strengthen, FSC forest management and chain of custody standards. FSC forest management certification confirms that the forest is being managed in a way that preserves the natural ecosystem and benefits the lives of local people and workers, all while ensuring it sustains economically viability. The FSC label can be found on products worldwide, providing an assurance that the product you are buying is made from wood from responsible sources.
